Mike Mileski
Speaking of steering racks, I know the later Zs, up through 1978, had a different rack than the early 240s. What makes it different? Is it beefier or is it just different some how in configuration? Mike Mileski Tucson, AZ
Doug71zt
Different ratio for the later rack as well as a different mounting. The same crossmember, just different mount bushings. I have a 280 rack in my 240. It steers a little quicker than the stock rack, but not as quick as the short steering arms. Doug
blueovalz
I do know that the bronze bushings (that guide the rack gear) are different in the ends of the rack casing. The 240 bushings are slightly smaller in diameter than the 280 bushings (not to be confused with the previous post of mounting bushings) and must be honed to make them work in the 280 rack (OD is the same, but the ID is larger on the 280). I must infer from this that the rack gear itself is larger in diameter.
RB26powered74zcar
Where to buy OEM 240Z Steering Rack? Just asking here, but is it not possible to refurbish the rack? I've heard storries of folks digging into one, and finding that there really isn't much to them... I do know that just the inner tie rod ends are costly...
