Guest iskone
I've read these are ok for the street. Who's got experence with these for street/track use as it stands now I'm more concerend with the street. Isk
jt1
I ran a set for 90% track 10% street, and they did very well. More grip than a pure street tire, lasted well, good turn in and feedback. Since mine were mostly track I can't say how many street miles, but I ran them 12 days on track. Check Bob Woodman Tire in Charleston SC as a source. jt
zguitar71
I know a couple of people who run them for autox and on the street (they never come off the car). They like them for the street but when the tread gets low look out for puddles (hydroplane). They usually get around 5-8k miles on them so they wear fast. They do not think they are very good autox tires but they are to lazy to change wheels before the race so they comprimise and use the RA-1's. Guest iskone
How do these stack up against the Kumo V700's? Isk
260DET
Better in the wet than the Kumho's I'd guess, a friend of mine uses them all the time. Put it this way, I'm getting a set of Kumho's and will not be running them on the road.
jt1
The RA-1's are a harder compound than the Kuhmo's. The RA-1's don't have as much grip, don't wear out as quick, and don't heat cycle out as quickly as the kuhmo's. jt
marcg
I concur with JT1 that the Kumhos are the quicker tire of the 2, but the Toyo is a great street tire. We have converted several of our club members to use these as thier street tires on thier Z cars. These cars generally don't see much more then 3000K miles/season so by the time they are worn out on the 3rd yr they should be getting new rubber anyways. The mistake some where doing is buying good higher performance tires but 4 yrs later found themselves with allot of thread left on the tire, but a very hard tire that was scary in the wet. If you wnat to go fast the Kumho is the way to go. Best bang for the buck if you are running timed events. The hoosiers are just too short lived. Guest iskone
Well here in Washington there is still some rain hanging around. I think I'll play it safe and go for the tire that can handle better in the rain. But when summer rolls around I'll get some track tires. jt1
Lots of people run the full depth RA-1's for street tires or rain tires, full depth as opposed to buying them shaved for AX or OT use. jt
clarkspeed
I think a lot depends on how your car is set up. You need quite a bit of camber to really use any radial tire to it's fullest on the track. When you drive on the street with Kumho/toyo/hoosier tires and 2-3 deg of neg camber they will wear quite quickly on the inside. If you put them on the track without enough camber, they will wear quickly on the outside. Especially the Hoosier. For street/autocross another tire worth mentioning are the Falkens. I drove on some 2 weeks ago and was surprised how sticky they were and should last longer than toyos.
