Rear wheels 280z not straight?

Recommended Posts

The outside of my rear tires are balding MUCH faster than the inside. And they both seem to be toe in. I'm thinking of taking it down to "All Z" In Fort Worth for an alinment But I'm wondering if this is a common plroblem like if the bushings are bad or somthing? Everthing looks straight under the rear, A arms, sway bar. I do see one problem, The bolt that goes through and mounts the lower strut to the "A" arm has a little damage to the nut on one side, like it bottomed out on somthing. But thats just on one side, and both rear tires are wearing fast on the outside edge. There is no adjustment for the rear so I don't know whats up? I'm putting in an L28ET soon so I need to get this fixed.

Thanks for the info I guess I'll take it down to ALL Z its kind of like a junk yard of all types of z cars, They might be able to look at it and tell me what I need to pull off one of the cars in the back to fix it. I just rotaited my tires today because the backs are getting thin.

Excessive toe-in is a common problem for some passenger side S30 suspensions, but I've not heard of the problem being so bad that it balds the outside of the tire. I believe the problem stemed from inaccurate drilling of the strut spindle pin boss, causing the strut to point in a different angle than the designers intented. "They both seem to be toe-in" sounds like you've not measured it to know for sure. I know visually, it will look this way with the way the lip angles across the top of the tire. I'd look at your camber settings before you do anything, especially if you drive like I do.

Ditto on the above.

Typically, the problem is not only in toe angle, but also in camber. Check the gap between the spring lower perch and the tire, on both sides of the car. There's a good chance that on one side the gap is something like 1/4" larger than on the other.

The same problem (camber, not toe) is also commonly found on the front end. And the solution is the same: swap strut housings from another car. In the front, this is very easy (takes maybe an hour per corner). In the rear, it's considerably more work, assuming that you reuse your original control arms.

Bottom line - it's a very common problem.

I gotta have the turbo motor right? 85,000 "miles" (going to do compression test!!!) Or continue getting about 3-4 months on a set of rear tires.:???:
