Guest Zenki_Silvia
ok i've got a n/a S14 Silvia but i want more grunt and power, so i'm thinking of swapping a bigger engine. Ideally nissan still, would like a 6 cyl, and with about easy relaible 300hp. i know rb26dett are common, and so are the sr20det, but iwant something different, n/a or tubby. thought about vg20dett good point: cheap, different, powerful bad points: heavy and probably won't fit lol rb26dett is common and pricey are there any other engines i've over looked in the 6 cyl catergory that would be light enough and powerful for drifting? cheers, nic. p.s. searched already but theres so much info its :s
slownrusty
If you want 300hp and want a straight six then the RB is your only Choice esp. if you want to stick with Nissan. Othewise you are back to the VG V6 engines. Ideally the SR20DET is the way to go 300hp comes quick on these, especially the black top models and they are still reliable and bullet proof. Guest Zenki_Silvia
i guess theres no points for originality these days. shame as i fancied something different. i guess it will come down to the price at the end of the day.
Clifton
If you want more grunt stay away from anything with less displacement than you currently have. VH45?
fl327
Your s14 already has SR power correct? Just saw that you are from UK in your profile. Well that isnt a swap to you then. RB is actually pretty straight forward and there are kits for it. vg30dett bearly fits into its own chassis. there would be tons of mods needed for it clear the chassis. it does make great power though. There arent very many people who have done vg30dett swaps into any cars, there is like two early zcars out in US that have done it, both owners of the cars work in high performance parts/tuning industry though. If you want originality, the vg is a lot of work and you may have to pull the engine for any type of work off to the sides of the engine, but hey ITS ONLY METAL
Guest ON3GO
1JZ!!! i love that motor, and so what its a toyota in a nissan! its a hybrid! but really i think the 1JZ with a 6speed behind it is a great combo, even more so in a S14 which is very refinded over the S13. mike
Guest emo236
The 1JZ is a great motor, but it's toyota. what kind of motor is in your car now? You said it was NA, but I thought the only motor to come in silvias were sr20's (turbo). Do you have a KA?
Guest Z Draci
Seeing that you are in the UK, why not do it TVR style? You might be able to find a straight 6 from a Rover or Jag, modify it for power, and make it fit into the car. Those engines were designed for cars much heavier than yours. It'll make enough power to break your tyres loose. The Silvia is already a bad understeerer. Putting anything bigger than an SR20DET will significantly upset the handling. blaze73
So you want a straight 6 with a reliable 300hp...ummm....helloooo people...L28et... pallnet is doing one as we speak. KA tranny is even easily adaptable to the L28. surprised im the first to mention it.

The Toyota R-154 5-speed, they put in JZA70 Supras, is a good transmission.
