cyrus
Do seats have to be attached to the rollbar? I would like to use evo seats and do not know if they need to attach to the rollbar for NHRA.
JMortensen
Are you referring to a seat brace? Not sure what the drag race requirements are, but a brace is a good idea, because if you were to take an impact from the rear and the seat or the sliders failed you wouldn't be as likely to get hurt. They have adjustable ones you can buy. I know IO Port has them.
Guest JAMIE T
I think only if the car is tube chassis. Otherwise, I've never done it. That includes two 5.0 Mustangs, and one '70 442 Olds. The Mustangs were built to NHRA specs to run in NMRA Super-Street Outlaw 10.5 class and certified to 8.99.
johnc
In NHRA the safety requirements really depend on what specific class you intend to run. In their General Requirments section 6.2 is has the following: "The driver's seat must be supported on the bottom and back by the frame or crossmember. Except as noted in SFI specifications, seats must be bolted with four bolts (and nuts and washers) on the bottom and one bolt in the rear into the crossbar; all bolts must go into frame or crossbraces." tube80z
What about FIA seats that don't require a backbrace?
johnc
NHRA doesn't care about FIA, they only look at SFI certifications. And no, there doesn't appear to be an exception for SFI certified seats in the NHRA rule book but if the SFI specification says "No back brace" then NHRA will accept that.
