280zx 5 lug drilling template?

Recommended Posts

knock out 3 of the 4 studs, then bolt up the rotor onto the axle, when you redrill for 5 lugs, you will actually only have to drill 4 holes, one remains on an existing stud, and you drill new holes where the other 4 holes line up... You can drill them yourself, but be sure that you have the holes exactly centered and you are drilling completely perpendicular to the flange... If you don't have a drill press, drill press vise, number drills etc... then you may need to take them to a machine shop....

Hey David, what year zx are you working on? The above tech. works, but you should really use the drill press to drill, when you go to tap for studs the tap will follow a bad hole the same as a straight hole, this is how I done my first set of 280zx axles.Moser Engineering will drill, tap, and sell you 1/2" studs for $90.00.If you are working on a 82-83, than you can use the 300 rear set-up and that is 99% bolt in. not near as much work as my earlier thread on my '80.

you can easily drill them yourself IF you make a center punch and have the starting point accurate..

pop out 3 studs- use a new rear rotor and bolt it on tight with a nut-

use a machine shop type centering punch that fits the rotor exactly- we used to supply those with 5 lug conversion we sold-

mark it - and drill it in 4 steps or so-- use 7/16" ARP studs

  • 6 months later...

Excuse my ignorance I am only new to these things...

My car has the original 4 stud wheels & discs on the front

On the rear someone has put solid discs, presume from a 280ZX?

I have been researching bigger & vented discs for the front & whether to upgrade the rear to vented discs as well.

I have from my GTR R32 halfcut, 4 pot calipers and 297mm vented discs on 5 stud hub. I also have I think a Z31 rear vented disc setup & calipers.

Can I use the GTR front setup & the Z31 rear setup with 5 studs, or is there complete differences in the hub/stub axle setup?

Below are discs I have researched which seem close to the correct size, but what about the stub axle etc - am I better to stay with the 240Z set up and change them to 5 stud or can I bolt on Z31 front & rear stub axles?

Can anyone advise?
