zliminator
I want to dynamat under the back hatch of my project Z and I was wondering where a good source of it is. I looked in http://www.mcmaster.com around page 3270 (put it in the search window) and found all kinds of sound-absorbing info and materials. I have some loud 3" flowmasters and want to try to tone it down some (for those inside anyway). Dan
zliminator
Cascade Quite Kote comes in a 24oz spray can - covers 4 square feet at $16 per can. Dan
DaleMX
Try brownbread, it's cheaper than dynamat and is quieter than the McMaster stuff. Here's a link. Do an Ebay search too. http://www.b-quiet.com/
Bartman
I used Premium Black Mat that I got from an auction on eBay. It's really good stuff that was much cheaper than dynomat or brown bread. I don't see any auctions for it, but here's a link to the company I got it from. http://www.perfectionsound.com/index.html
Z-8
I got some Fat Mat for my 1948 chevy. At like, 1$ a foot, didn't really see anything better. Especially with Dyna mat at 6$ a foot. I got 100 feet, so math is simple and I saved a butt-ton.
DaleMX
Maybe we should re-think our goals, is it quality or cost. And what good is a sound deadener if it fails (comes loose) a year after the installation. I was sold on the Brown Bread or Fat Mat for my setup. But today I ran across this site were these products and others are compared. Check it out. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
David K
I plan on throwing out my entire interior, and POR-15'ing everything, and then spraying some kind of bed liner or sound deadener over that. I just read that website on sound deadeners. Cool stuff!
DaleMX
So according to Don Sambrook at the "Sound Deadener Showdown" it appears as though all of the asphalt based deadeners are subject to adhesion failure if the temperature get too hot, like 160 degrees or above for several hours. That included "Brown Bread, Fat Mat, and Dynamat original". The Butyl based products and the butyl with asphalt filler looked like they would be ok. He talked me out of the "Peel and Seal" concept and into the high quality products for lasting results. It only makes sense. I only want to do this once. "Second Skin" deadeners will be my choice.
