Mayolives
I have decided to sell or trade my Featherlite open trailer and get an enclosed one. I really would like to have another all aluminum trailer and have looked at several new ones. They are very expensive, even when compared to a high quality steel framed trailer. I have found an excellent factory direct deal on a Millennium, Gold series, 24 ft model; with a "v" nose and it is priced at about two thirds the cost of an all aluminum one with the same options. Have any of you had experience with a Millennium trailer? Does anyone have a strong opinion about which trailer manufacturer builds the best one? How about aluminum vs steel opinions? Thanks for your input, mayolives
Mikelly
I did a bunch of research a while back and found that you can get really exhausted researching trailers! Obviously construction of any trailer is key. The only real advantage to aluminum is less weight in towing, and one of the reasons I bought my Dodge Cummins diesel was that most of the enclosed trailers with twin 5000# axles and costing under $10K were steel. I did look at Milleniums line of trailers and they were on par with most of the more popular brands out there. As soon as we're over the hurdle on this new business, I'll be purchasing something, but still undecided. I'm also undecided on if I should get a 24 footer, or settle for a 20 footer, since I'm putting a Datsun in it and not a Corvette. Careful on considering one though. What I found is two identical trailers on the outside were not necessarily identical under the skin. Some crappy wiring, wiring routing practices, and stud placement, as well as C-channel vs. beam construction and placement was also widely varied amoung product lines. Mayolives
"C-channel vs. beam construction" Mike...are you referring to the construction of the frame? I assume that beam construction would be better???

Mikelly
You also want to make sure the wall studs aren't 24inches on center. And get under the trailer and look at how the wiring is routed and make sure it isn't hanging... Check the brakes on the trailer too... If they sell you 4 wheel brakes, make sure you get FOUR wheel brakes. Mike
johnc
The only real advantage to aluminum is less weight in towing, There's also that rust thing... I'm also undecided on if I should get a 24 footer, Get it. It is SO much easier to buy and sell a 24' enclosed trailer because it opens you up to the whole drag race/muscle car market. Plus that extra 4' is very valuable. Some other thoughs: Torsion axles are better then leaf springs. Electric brakes are better then hydralic brakes. 4 wheels brakes are better the 2 wheel brakes. Weight distributing hitch is better then dead weight hitch. Sway control is better then no sway control. 6 ties downs are better then 4. Square tube frame and crossmembers are better then C-channel or I-beam.
