Hoov, Roll bars in street cars are pretty questionable.Roll bars with no padding are always wrong.Roll bars are ment to be used in conjunction with helmets.Just because this car has no halo with its diagonal brace,doesn't mean there aren't bars in close enough proximity to contact the occupant's soft heads.These cars flex.That bottom mounted seat will surely flex.Harnesses stretch.The human body stretches.The hoop and diagonal brace are absolutely within range of the driver's and passenger's heads during even a relatively mild impact. I just want people to be aware of these real dangers,and act to protect themselves.If someone makes an educated choice to ignore safe practices,that's their perogative.The world can always use organ donors.

  9. Tom, Here's a sure fire way to find out which way to store your crank.Store one half horizontal and the other half vertical.Let us know how this works out.

Like MARK said,the R200 is plenty strong for road course duty.Tom's new axles did the trick,but his ride height is still a bit compromised.The diff and whole rear suspension is just in the wrong place for our needs.So...Bain Williams new V8Z will be sporting what we hope is the solution.We're still some months away from completion.Photos will follow upon completion.Sorry to seem to be a bit off topic,but I think this geometry stuff relates to whatever diff is in the Z.

One of the reasons the cars in the tunnel photos looked rather "unlow" was that the tires were resting on scale pads attached to data recorders beneath the floor.These pads were about 1 to 1.5 inches above tunnel floor. The point remains though;low is better.It's up to the the individual car owner to decide what amount of ground clearance is practical for them.

  14. The Side Vents are some SDI stuff.Might be on the market in volumn this summer.
  15. Aluminum honeycomb panels are great for splitters.You just have to cap/radius the cut edges.They will be flat just like the sheet aluminum.The reason for the composite solution was the ability to form a "belly" along the bottom while keeping the top flat.

Rags, I see your point about spilling water out of my front end.Extending the splitter would increase downforce.Like everything,there is a balance to be reached.Another foot would really mash that thing down.Of course it would look like S..T.Also the further a splitter protrudes,the more pitch sensitive it becomes.That could really upset the apple cart!As for making splitters for our cars,using a flat piece of 0.080 aluminum works,but is really not the best.Ideally the bottom should have a "belly".Just another wing;right?Composites are better suited to this application.Once again;another bolt on part that can be as complex as your time,talent,and budget allow.

You've made great strides towards increasing your downforce and reducing drag.I know people freak out about small radiator openings,but if the details are managed[hood vents and such],the system works.The SDI blue Z in the tunnel tests has run the same nose seen in there for about twos years.Many events are run in the hot stick Southern Summer.25 to 30 minute session.I have NO FAN.We run the CSR Electric Water Pump,and the temp's have never gone over 185 degrees...Except when I forget to turn on the pump.OOPS!

No.There is a high pressure region at the base of the windshield.The original purpose of the original "cowl induction"hoods was to tap into this high pressure to help feed the engine's induction system with cool positively pressurized air.Of course nothing is certain until tested.The windshield base/cowl area of the Z has very complex flows and pressures.You have high and low pressures adjacent to each other.Very small details in this type of zone can swing downforce and drag numbers from one and of the spectrum to the other.There really is not enough data to draw any conclusion yet.Let's go back to the tunnel!

I believe we could still use larger vents in the top of the hood to decrease pressure further.The side vents being closed off increased drag,but had little effect on downforce.Thus,the vented inspection covers do not hurt the side vents.Closing off the hood/inspection vents really hurt downforce.You can see this in the tests.The nose cover was installed about two years ago.It helped everything including cooling.Summer or Winter;the temp runs 185 degrees.A rare occasion of smaller is better.However that's not what she said.

The holes in the core support were somewhat restricted in the tests.That's how the car has been run.After seeing what was going on during the tests,they are now closed off.I'm also making the opening in the nose smaller,but adjustable.Running the car at Roebling Road in June will provide a great climate to find the smallest opening that'll keep the engine from completely melting.An APR Wing is on the way to assist matching the rear downforce to the front.
  21. Photos will follow,but yes the area above the nose inlet to the core support in the blue SDI car is sealed off.
  22. Johnc, How did you loosen/tighten the nut on the pinion shaft?It appears to need a special super deep socket to access it.Do you recall what size the nut is?I might have to make my own tool.Thanks. Roddy
