mull
I did search, I came up with these two pictures: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105454 Question: Does the RB25 gearbox fit the 240z transmission tunnel without any modifications to it? Besides the one mentioned in the thread above. Looking for more pics on RB25-installs. If you got 'em - please post 'em Thanks!
RB26powered74zcar
What you see above (my tunnel) is all thats needed to install the RB25det trans into the series 2 tunnel (late 71 to 78. I belive there is pics of the series 1 tunnel (69ish to late 71) install in 240z master's thread.
Ed260Z
IMO, this is the best set up to use when installing a new tranny into a Z. I never got an answer on that post if any additional bracing was needed or used on the interior of the car.
RB26powered74zcar
Ed, there was no extra bracing needed on the inside of the car. Belive me, with that extra piece of flat steel welded to the tunnel, then the ears, its stout...
Ed260Z
Thanks for the info. Did you make the ears, or get them from a kit?
RB26powered74zcar
Actually, James Thagard did the tunnel mod for me while he had my car in Fla. for the custom intake/exhaust manifold build.
stony
Mine looked identicle to that. With the exception i didnt weld in any addition plate. You have to shave off the old ears and weld in a new ears. The way i did it was make the brackets and then attach everything to the tranny how it was going to be assembled. with the tranny mounted to the engine and the ears mounted on the tranny mount i jacked the tranny up till it was where i wanted it. then tacked everything in place. removed tranny and finished welding. took a total of maybe 2 hours total Good luck. Ed260Z
On my Z there appears to be bracing that goes all around the tunnel at the tranny mounting point. Should I also move that back? Did you use your Z's tranny mount or the RB's?
stony
No the mounts just have to be made smaller as the r33 5 speed is allot more big around in that area. ALL I did was weld the ears to the preexisting metal. Some add a plate to attach the ears to.
Garrett76Zt
Older thread i know. . . since you cut the ears off and are rewelding them, did you just eyeball it at the same height as the old placement or did you spend any time trying to get driveshaft geometry at all? Just curious, since this seems to be our situation with the z32 trans on an L.
