v80z
Well I guess I will learn how to be a crew chief as this kart is setup for my son. He is 9. This oughta be fun. I will post more as things happen. I bought this off ebay and am going to pick it up from the freight company in Richmond VA this Thursday. We have joined the local Kart Club that races at the local circle track. Fairly flat oval 4/10s of a mile. Racing Jr. 1 road course Purple Restrictor plate. http://www.hrkc.com http://www.langley-speedway.com

80LS1T
I work with 3 guys who race those karts. ONe races shifter karts and 2 race the smaller karts like yours. The shifter car does in the neihborhood of 100mph! One guy is going to let me race this year and a couple races! Should be fun! Guy

Guest strokerZ
I wish my dad was that cool when I was 9. I remember battling to get a push go cart built out of old lumber and some wheelbarrow wheels.
v80z
So Pumped Went and got a pull starter and some Methanol. Fired right up first time. Front and one side fairing is cracked and needs repair/replace but all in all I am very satisfied. Ran it several hours Yesterday with many skidding 180s. I will post some video when it warms up
v80z
http://jemofvausa.no-ip.org/videos/10kart_1.wmv Not sure what happened to the audio used a free .wmv editor. My son and I were very excited Saturday Morning for oour first karting practice/shake down. This track is not where our club runs. It is a rental kart track that is open early for race karting. $10 for a 2hour session open practice. We trailered the kart successfully brought fuel air and movie camera. Forgot all the tools UGH!!!. There were about 8 karts on track 2 cycles, shifters and 4 strokes. Well we got it fired and got it out there. He made about 20 laps his first session. He came in and felt great. Once he went out every one else came in and he had the track alone for his session. His kart was very loose on those old tires which was good. He did some correcting as his tail slid out. The 2nd session he went out in traffic. I think it was nerve racking for him. It will be better when he is on track with the same experience level and power level. He felt like he had to watch out for the others all the time instead of driving his line and letting others pass. Bad advice from dad. "Stay to the outside" So I confused him a bit. He came in after about 6 laps and 2 spin outs. After each spin he got the kart going and entered the track safely which was good practice. After that session one of the drivers came and told him about staying on the line not worrying and looking back that they would pass him where ever and to be predictable. It will come with more time. There was one fellow who was overdriving his kart that day and hit the tires and flipped. Got pinned until others could get to him. HE was OK but I think it made my son even more nervous. He went out for a third session but came in after 3 laps complaining of hand vibration. Wonder what that is about and how to fix it? I think his first practice was taxing both physically and mentally. Today he said he was ready to go again. HE also said that if all he got to do was drive at Ft. Eustis he would be very happy. I think karting with HRKC in a more organized environment will be even more satisfying for him. We met a father son team out there that started like we are and were driving a Birel shifter. They were very friendly and offered us a lot of advice. All in all it went well. I am planning on running the new tires next week at practice. Hopefully he wont be as loose.
