Guest iskone
I'm getting the Z back in shape and can't get to the body shop yet because of scheduling, tabs, ins, headlights, blinkers, hood, etc. So I've been looking at shells in the meantime to CMA in case the costs go way high. Leading me to the camber plates. These were installed by the PO (same guy who did the dizzy). I searched around for anything that looks like mine but couldn't find anything, got any ideas where they came from? Bigger question now is doesn't it seem "backwards" the way they were installed? I can only add camber right? The nut looks like when at full negitive it would be almost in the stock position. Why would you do that? The car did track straight and handled great. The car low something like no more than 4" off the gound from the bottom of the rear of the front wheel well (the 3" in my sig is from the X-member) I have 195/50/15's and 3/4"-1" bump steer spacers. Can't think of anything else that would matter. Didn't even look at the rear plates so I don't have pics but I'll chack later.
Hypertek
Id flip them around, having adjustibility to go into the negative camber range can help dial in the suspension for grip. Otherwise, its like they installed them for "camber correction" like something you would need to do for a lowered vehicle. Those are pretty nice camber plates btw, no idea who makes em. But im sure someone does. my only nitpick about them is they could have been slotted more for a wider range of adjustment.
JMortensen
Maybe he was running bias ply tires. Bias ply slicks are very common and they require a whole lot less negative camber. Flip them if you're going to run radials and you're going to race.
Guest iskone
I think I will just flip them. I thought about having the slots enlarged but I think I'd have to have them anodized again. I'll look into it though. I've been thinking if nobody can reconize them they are probably one offs. Every part of my car from the carbs to my wheel spacers has some one off peice of aluminum machined. All the one off stuff has got me thinking about a new shell and using supported parts. What I'm I going to do if one of my control arm brackets breaks? I thnik I'd be screwed. Isk
JMortensen
You've got some really cool stuff on that car. I wouldn't get a new shell just because somebody made it. So far from what I've seen it looks like he made everything right.

Did they increase the front track on this car? That could be one reason to mount the plates they way they are. Cary
Guest iskone
Yeah, what you guys are saying is exactly what I was thinking when I was driving to work. I was telling my self this is my first 240, a BA one at that I can I just let her go. I still will keep my eye out for a shell since I can unbolt and or cut everything out of my Z and put it into another one. The diff mounts are going to be the hardest since I'll have to cut up the floor to get them out and then weld them in. Also there are just a few things I'd like to do a little diferent, like the frame rails. The track seems to be stock. I've though at times it seems wider but I think it just looks that way because it is so low. Isk
bjhines
check the location of the lower front control arm mounting bolts... If the previous owner significantly changed the mounting holes location... he might have actually needed to dial OUT excessive negative camber... You can mount up some wheels and check camber easily enough the way the car is now... I would check initial settings/ranges the way it is now... Guest iskone
I've checked the control arm location before and as far as I can tell it is stock. I checked for a different reason, I have NO bumpsteer issues at all but my car is the lowest Z I've seen and driven (i'm sure there is lower) So I was trying to figure out why. The rears look stock too, execpt the ones that are part of the front diff mount, seen here at the bottom of the pic. I couldn't check the passenger side camber because the top of the sturt tower is pushed in, changing the camber the car had. I could check the driver side though. The car is even drivable since I cut out the area that was smashed into the tire. Isk
Guest iskone
The machine shop my work uses is owned by a Porsche guy nad he said he would have no problems machining the plates for more range of motion if I decide too. I'm renting a trailer bright and early tomorrow and have two body shops I'm taking her to so it will be tomorrow when I find out how likely it is I'll be fixing my Z or buying a shell.
