big-phil
I love having a welder!! weled up supports for my leather 300zx seat, power everything! Shaved the side marker lights, and cut my Eclipse BOV from its stock 1.75 inch pipe and welded it to some 2.5 inch pipe. Look MOM I'm welding! grumpyvette
get the HARBOR FREIGHT or northern tool, hoods, thier cheap and work reasonably well, ideal, no! but it sure beats dark goggles, and Ive got one Ive used frequently when under conditions that Id rather not subject a better helmet too like welding dirrectly overhead, where crud tends to fall on the helmet http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=46092 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200311850_200311850 THEY regularly sell for $59 -$69 on sale! Ive even seen them sell for $55 once speedglas makes a much better helmet if you have the buck$ https://weldingsupply.securesites.com/cgi-bin/einstein.pl?Next::17:UNDEF:OR:R::PR#R07

BirdmanZ
I use a an auto dark made by hobart. Paid 150 for it and it is worth every penny.
Bartman
I got the auto-darkening helmet form Harbor Freight and it's definitely worth it. It's so much easier to be able to see through it whether you're welding or not. It will probably allow you to make even nicer welds
