Lunar240z
There's a 280z out here in a dirt lot, and i need some parts from it stub axles/companion flanges, front control arm, and front hubs... well first off how do i find out if it's actually abandoned? i don't want to take parts off a car that someone's coming back for... the cars from washington state..the registration tags are from 2004... should i just go there late at night and start pulling? I'd like to do this as free as possible....
331CI 280z
Want to get arrested? Go there at night. Otherwise, take the plate number to DMV and run a search. I know that if I saw someone stripping my car, I'd be out there with my .45 in seconds. Be safe.
BayAreaZT
I've got a '78 280Z parts car I'll let go for cheap if you can tow it from San Jose. Suspension, 5-speed tranny, rear end is all there. Body is trashed.
Lunar240z
it's not on anyones property really. they're going to be building houses there later, so the developers own the land. i'll try taking the plate number to the dmv, but then what? [i don't have room for a parts car...]
331CI 280z
then you find the previous owner's information, and look him or her up. Either by anywho.com or zabasearch.com or something of that nature, and talk to them to see what they are doing with the car. $200 worth of parts is not worth court fees and attorney costs, not to mention a record. I understand your situation but look at it long term and you'll see.
cygnusx1
You can get arrested and you can get pinned for stealing the car if it is stolen.
Hartspank
you could try contacting the land developer, they could know what is going on with the car. They are probably having hauled away as scrap and may let you take what you need.
zero
bayareazt, how much would you want for that 5speed and would you be willing to ship it?
BayAreaZT
Sorry, if I pull the 5-speed I'd keep it for myself. I just want someone to take the whole car.
wingnutthehutt
Lunar, it's Oakley, I just moved from there. The car is probably abandoned. What I recommend is going and talking to the jobsite foreman and asking him what he knows about the car. Tell him you're trying to find the owner, and give him your card, and ask him not to tow it off to the crusher. Out of curiousity, where's it at? Lunar240z
highway 4 across from the game exchange. [brentwood] they haven't started contruction there yet. i could swear there was a sign though. they started building at the other end of the lot though... i'm going to talk to one of the people that live near there to see how long it's been there. i'll check out the license # too... wingnutthehutt
I think I know where you're talking about, but don't remember seeing it there. There's one sitting in a field in Stockton, on Eight Mile Road between Hwy 99 and 88. I'd go ask the nearest house about it, but I have nowhere to store it, same as you.
