JTR Upper Radiator Hose?

I am doing a JTR convertion on my 280 with an L28. I have been looking for a radiator hose that would fit without having to use the splicing kit that is sold by JTR. I have come up with a couple of numbers for the hose but I was wondering if any one has done this convertion and if so what hose did they use for the top hose. I was looking at Dayco #'s

I could have had that Radiator for 325.00 but what fun would that be? Plus I got mine and set it up for less than 200.00. I also think having an aluminum radiator bolted to the frame is the wrong answer for a daily driver.

I did come to you for help with an email but you said you would not help me due to your research was so extensive or in depth or something like that and you never offered me the ability to purchase your radiator hose. So I say to hell with you. You come on here and have a smart a$$ comment about your radiator and how I could have it for blah blah blah amount. Who said I wanted your setup anyway. I was just interested in the upper radiator hose.

Don’t worry though I did find out which hose I need to run. Besides I did a little research on your hose and you want to charge 50.00 for a hose that should cost no more than 15.00 from Advanceautoparts, Autozone, NAPA. I can understand how running a business would keep you from letting secret info get out to everybody and I don’t blame you for not telling anyone your prized secrets but don’t take this thread and advertise about your products.

See 1 Fast Z is I have found a way to run a Taurus fan with the L28 having the stock water pump in place and if I used your radiator I would have had to use a stock fan or a wimpy electric fan.

Radiator is not hard mounted, do your research before your internet parroting, THANK YOU. Its grommeted, and My car is DAILY driven, to the extent. My motor puts out TONS of torque, (it does run 12's in the 1/4) And Works great. Do your research again, as my hoses do NOT cost your so called 15.00 they are 42.00 MY COST, And I dont think 50.00 is too much to ask for that profit margin. I have tons of room to run any fan in front or behind my radiator, but I choose to keep as many things OUT of the engine compartment as possible, as its clutterful. Why would any supplier tell where they, how they, or get there products, its called buisness! Sorry you had so much trouble with your setup, sorry, you have to come on a online forum and attack people for your mistakes. Its pretty bad when a guy cant even find his own hose, much less build a car. Good luck though, and remember dont get but hurt when a supplier wont give you all of those secrets, and when they dont, be sure to NOT make claims saying you know what cost what, etc.

So are your hoses made of silicone or some other alternate material, which might make them cost more than a standard hose? Maybe the confusion about the grommets stems from the fact that you can't really see any in either of those pictures you posted...do you have one with a better shot of those to dispel any misconceptions people might have?

So today I test fitted the JTR radiator in the car with my bracket made at work. I work on Army helicopters, so we have an array of shops and tools. I found out that the lower radiator hose off of the Z will fit the top portion of the JTR radiator to the thermostat housing just perfect if you cut one end of it.

You must have modified your engine mounts to move your engine back or you have a skinny radiator. You should only have at the most 4 inches between the water pump and the radiator.

Never had trouble and I have not made a mistake. I have not had trouble finding a hose I was just looking for someone who might have some wisdom in the subject. I hope you suppliers don't BUT HURT us small guys to much. It might make me a :newbie:

Hello all,

I'm a newbie and I've been browsing the site pretty regularly for the last month or so getting ideas for my 280ZX with a completed V8 swap (still fine tuning). I came on hoping to find some info on the radiator hose and was excited to see that someone else was working through the same problem, but it actually turned out to be a fight in progress instead :cry: .

I love this site, because it allows me (and others like me) to take advantage of the knowledge and experience that other members choose to share. This way, I (we) can hopefully avoid costly mistakes or learn easier (or better) ways of doing things.

I don't think this is the right forum for fighting. If it doesn't add to the betterment of the site or it's members...it should probably go unsaid. I like the easy going, Z-family, friendly attitude this site has, please don't mess it up. That's my 2-cents.

Anyway, today (Friday) I modified a Taurus fan to work with the JTR radiator I received this week. I had to do some cutting and ended up making my own mounting brackets for the fan. Saturday, I'll visit Autozone for some hoes :) . I'll post some pictures when it's finished (if it turns out good).

Hgeorge, put the part numbers of your hoses in there too, that way we can start getting a pretty good database of stuff that will work with different swaps. I think most everybody here would rather keep things positive too, so don't worry too much about the fight your seeing, it doesn't happen much, and the admins are really good about stepping in before it gets out of hand. Welcome to the forum!

You may want to look into the Escort fan shroud in stead of the Tarus fan shroud. It seems to work out better. The fan moves over to the drivers side. I also cut an extra lower radiator hose to use for the top radiator hose. For the bottom hose I used the 90 chevy hose with a piece from autozone will get the number later for ya. It was a reducer for an exhaust of all things. LOL Good luck on the switch over.

How are you going to wire your fan?

As promised, here is a link to the pictures of my JTR radiator installation with Ford Taurus fan. There are 47 pictures because I tried to show as much as I could (but sometimes I forgot to take pictures) of the process, from unpacking to completion.

I had to take it all apart again when I dropped a wrench into the bottom radiator bracket while tightening the last bolt on the bottom of fan brace (it slipped under the radiator). After that, I found it easier to install the bottom brace bolts before putting the radiator into the bracket. The top bolts were much easier to install.

I was able to use steel bolts (1/2" by 1/4") and nuts (12 cents & 6 cents at Lowes) for the braces and everything on the fan (didn't want to mess with tapping).

I went to the local sheet metal shop and got stainless steel braces 20" long and 1" wide (hopefully more durable than aluminum). They made them out of scrap and let me have them for free. They now have a loyal customer!

I made the brackets (the small ones for the right side) out of one of the braces. I also had some 1/2" wide bars in case I needed cross braces, but didn't have to use them.

I probably could have saved some money by ordering some of the hoses you guys had listed, but sometimes I hate to wait.

I used:

Autozone P/N: 60982 for the top (spliced to existing hose)

AutoZone P/N: 62116 and 61458 (spliced) for the bottom.

 

If I had paid attention to the routing of the bottom hose, I could have found one piece that would have worked.

It's too late for me to swap now, the radiator project is done.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

 

As far as wiring the fan goes, I ordered a controller from Jeg's back in December and it was installed as part of the engine swap. This is the second hacking of the Taurus fan, it was installed on the 280ZX radiator. Things were runing a bit too hot for my liking, so I decided to go with the JTR radiator.
