wigenOut-S30
Well I made a 432 style grill. This is the first time I picked up a welder. The frame is welded mild steel. the mesh is aluminum and had to be bolted to the frame. I am looking for steel mesh so it can be welded to the frame. The steel I found so far like at home depot or lowes just isnt long enough. Tell me what ya think.. I know the pics are kinda dark but it is really cloudy today.. mario_82_ZXT
I really like the mesh but I think the frame is a tad too think. Looks good though, and it does a decent job of hiding the IC. Mario
AK-Z
Did you get the mesh from home depot (gutter cleaner mesh)? lol, I bought some to do the same thing, same problem I came across, doesn't quite fit. you go to the vent section of home depot, you can find bigger pieces that you can cut to fit better. Actually I was looking for the same thing at homedepot and lowes. I found the same problem. Actually I got it from my next door neighbor. He just gave it to me. The problem is that it is aluminum instead of steel so I had to bolt it to the frame. If anyone knows where to get steel mesh that is long enough please speak up. veritech-z
I think the grill looks pretty good. I don't know why, but I was expecting this to be about the kind of grill you cook on when I first read the title...I'm just having one of those days I guess. JMortensen
Search industrial supply places for "wire cloth". It is usually steel, and although it may not have the exact pattern you want, it should work fine. You can get various size holes it it too, so finer or coarser mesh shouldn't be tough to find if you want it.
Metallicar
I got my stainless steel mesh from Mcmaster Carr. I used 1/4" square, but they have other sizes and patterns.
OlderThanMe
Also look up steel supply warehouses. They usually carry that kind of stuff. Also called expanded steel or expanded sheet. You can get a 4'x8' sheet for like $
AK-Z
also look at the metal working section of home depot or lowes. They have sheets for home radiator covers.I think having it mounted in a frame is better, though suggest using narrower pieces and having it line up right with the hood and bumper
phantaz
i like the mesh look a lot.. the frame is a bit.. much. but that flat black really blends well with the color.. LOOKS GOOD!!
Sven
Pegasus Racing has several types of screen, in sizes up to 24"x36". handy screen-o-matic link
Hugh
Do you think you couldn't have just filled the entire space with mesh? The frame makes the grill look pretty small. Not bad... but if the mesh were bigger, it would look great.
