Guest Anonymous
Some jackass in my town recently totaled a 92 300ZX TT. I own a '71 240Z with a 350. I want to upgrade the brakes and rims. Is there anyway to make the brakes from this Z32 work on my car? Thanks for your help. Nick '71 350Z
Guest scca
Nick if you can get the parts CHEAP then get em, but to stay 4 lug you will spend a LOT to make it all bolt on. (assuming you are not a machinist....) Mark did as i did,we both made it work but just because you did it successfully doesnt mean you would want to do it again...... i have the skyline TT stuff on my car but it was a one off thing and i wouldnt do it again. i spent far more putting the nissan setup on my car than i would have spent on outlaw stuff.. ifyou can weld the rears will go on easy without the ebrake portion though. adding that in is VERY difficult. it looks like Mark isnt even using the 300 rotors so that makes copying his brackets useless unless you copy the whole setup.. all i would buy is the calipers if you are staying 4 lug - or all if going 5 lug.. Mark.... whats the shifter boot out of in your car? i need something similar to that.. Guest Anonymous
Mike, The shifter boot is from MSA. It's there universal fit leather boot. Mark
Guest Anonymous
Nick, Yes you can make it work, see my pics at http://photos.yahoo.com/mwicard A better and cheaper option would be to buy a brake kit from one of the guys an the board and go ahead and go five lug while you are at it. If I had it to do over again thats what I would do. However I do have my car apart and if I could find someone to copy the brackets.....Good luck Mark
Cyind
check the theard below the picture that got posted are my front brakes for my 77. SCCA/Mike is great to work with and knows a lot about the diff setups. don't let my $1600 cost scare you Mike can give you other options that will come out cheaper. Mine is what I wanted to give my 450HP Hybrid the stopping power that it takes to stop as fast as it can go... with out any fade... http://www.hybridz.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=000778 Z U V8ter
Guest Anonymous
Well, he said I could get the wheels, tires, and every part of the brakes for $600. You think this is worth it? I could probably find a shop in town to help make them fit. Thanks for your help.

Mark's got custom 2 pc. rotors. ie. only the front calipers were used, rotors are not Z32. And I assume from the info here you know what's involved with a 5lug conversion? (lots in archives here). Those calipers aren't that pricey so depending on what you feel the wheels/tires are worth and you've got budget for the conversion/hubs/spacers/etc. Machine shops can be very pricey if you have then 'solve' your issues, ie. pay them to think. Far different from working out all details and just giving them a drawing of exactly what you want and only paying for machining time. Danno74Z
Ross is correct above and I would like to add just a few things. You need custom brackets for the calipers (front and rear) to use Z32 parts on the Z. To my knowledge one can use the rear rotors but again not a direct fit. The front rotors will not fit without major machine work and at that I'm not sure. Also, the rear emergency brake system on the Z32 will not work on the older Z. So in a nut shell, purchase a complete system from the members here at HybridZ - money well spent and a lot fewer headaches. Guest scca
$600 isnt a bad price - BUT the TT wheels i am not sure if will fit a unflared car..offset wise. i think theyre 8.5" wide rear??? definitely need coilovers 8" tall and mounted above the tires.. rims are easy worth $300 so thats only $300 for brakes. price it all out before you jump on it
Kimi
I got almost the same problem as Nick. I have a ´72 240Z + Ford 302 and I would like to upgrade the brakes. I have a friend who could sell the 300ZX T -88 (Z31) brakes cheap. Is it possible to fit those brakes in to my car? Or is it easier to take the brakes from some other car and put them in the 240Z? blueovalz
There are a lot of options out there. If you want aftermarket, there are fine sets available, and if you want to update to later ZX brakes, check the "search" as a lot of info on the early 300ZX front/later 280ZX rear is in there. Guest scca
88 300 brakes will work, they are not real special though, 2 piston floaters, oh and you must be changing to 5 lug with these too.. as all 88 are 5 lug.. the rears will NOT bolt on at all, they are reverse mounted and to get the bleeder screws to work out you will mount the caliper totally vertical- ebrake cable will be a fun thing to connect . havent tried the fronts it may work like the ZX setup with drilling out the strut threads, i have a set here but have never tried it- i was saving it for a 300 person who has 4 lug and wants to upgrade to the larger brake and 5 lug .. well off to spain-portugal-london for 3 weeks tomorrow so i wont be replying for a while... Mikelly
Guys, save your money and wait until you can afford tyo upgrade properly with parts that fit. Trust me here. You will end up buying a lot of "OK" brake parts and in the end either be stock with boxes of parts (Like me) that won't fit, or spend 3 times Mike or Ross' setups to make "OK" brakes work on your car. Mikes full 12 inch/outlaw kit is a nice FRONT set up and virtually fade free. For about $1000 you could get all the brake you would ever need. And I know Ross has some options as well. Check around, but don't waist your time with that OE stuff. Just my .02$ Mike
Guest Anonymous
I second Mike's post. Thant was my experience as well. I ended up with a nice set up but I still have boxes of parts left over and it would have been cheaper to go with the out law setup at the begining. Kimi
OK, I think that I will not buy those 300ZX -88 brakes. The original brakes in my 240Z works fine at the moment. I will wait ´till I can buy a real upgrade kit. Where can I buy / order brake upgrade kits? I live in Finland so it is kind of hard to find parts here to the Z. PS Check out our Datsun Nissan Sportscar club of Finland -webpage: http://www.sunpoint.net/~zkerho It is still under construction, but we have about 50 members already. My own car will come to the pages in next week.

Mikelly
Check the link here for the HybridZ store. Mike Gibson can work with you on Shipping from Canada. His parts and kits are superior. Mike Kelly
Kimi
To Owen, Yes, we have the whole website in Finnish but we will make an English version of them in the near future. Under "Tapahtumat" (=Meetings) you find our first meeting last summer. We will have a new meeting in next summer, and are expecting about 30 Datsuns / Nissans. I will put a link to some pictures of my car in next week here. To Mikelly, OK, I will contact Mike Gibson about the brake upgrade kits. Thanks for the advice
