nscason
I watch spike tv and they are always showing off these aftermarket heads for all kinds of motors. is there any kind of head like that for a z? or do you guys that need a certain characteristic just use one from a different year and modify it a little? naviathan
No. The stock head is all you get unless you somehow become the luckiest guy on the planet and find an LY crossflow head. Otherwise, mod your stock head and go from there.
johnc
OS Giken (sp?) made a twin cam DOHC head for the L6. Hard to find and very expensive. Search this site using DOHC and L6 and you'll find some information about it.
dj paul
ya a guy on zcar.com replied when i asked that question that he would sell me his OS Giken crossflow for 8 grand. also someone on here was welding 2 ka 24 heads together and last time i saw it it looked like it would work. he had a master welder weld it though. and took a lot of time. naviathan
Actually he didn't weld it together. I asked about that, it's dowel rods or something between the pieceswith oring and machined to seal flush.
spork
Why not have a stock head re-worked? There is quit a bit that can be had from a good port job and upgraded cam.
Mack
no aftermarket heads yet.
1 fast z
I dont know if I will ever mass produce the custom DOHC head, but I might do a couple one off's for people if they HAVE to have one. Will see how much interest there is in about three months at the Z car Nat's for the unveiling.
nscason
oh boy the nationals. ill have my car there. i did last year. i really hope to have all the body work done and the car painted by then. i had my car in the show last year. while we are on the subject... what is the best compression ratio for a turbo motor? i know that lower compression is better for those kind of applications. how do you change that? special machining, or one of those metal head gaskets? isnt the stock compression 9. something for a 77? what is ideal for a turbo and how do you get there? Tony D
no aftermarket heads yet. no aftermarket heads anymore is more correct... though I have on good authority that three NOS LY heads surfaced recently but I am sworn to secrecy on their location, dammit!
