alright was wondering has anyone ever adpated a different MAF to lets say oh i dotn know a . .. . 78 280? and lets just stay its fairly stock?

in any event i was lookin at mine cleaning the flap b/c it was sticking (uhggg) and i noticed that that is a little tiny hole for air to b coming through feeding my engine, then i thought wow maybe i could bore it some. Then my more intelligent side said , no dummy you cnat, b/c the size of the hole is in a direct realtionship to how much air goes through that moves the flap that tells your engine, oh hell we need mroe fuel. SOOOO to make a long story short after some searching, I decided to ask my more knowledgable betters.

So here i pose the question can the stock MAF b modified or exchanged for an aftermarket MAF? W/o changing to stand alone managment?

If thie answer is yes i will b extremely surprised b/c after all my research it just downt seem doable.

Anywho thanks for reading, and if i could id give all of you the time back i stole from your lifes just now.

the reason i dont jsut say F$$$ it and go megasquirt is b/c im extremely nervous about tryign due to the nature of the beast. All the horror stories have me nervous b/c id have to get it done in a weekend or take time off to do it. And building the board and harness and such is kind daunting.

you know, for $600 I could adapt your stock harness and MAKE megasquirt plug and play for your car, with a pretty decent base map. That would be fuel only tho, becayse you dont have a turbo dist. to run spark. Also, you would have to switch to a 60MM 240SX TB with accompanying TPS sensor, other than that, it would be a plug and play, bolt in affair. and you could DITCH the stock AFM.

The Megasqirt ecu has a 12x12 fuel map while the stock z31 ecu has a 16x16.

megasqirt needs extra stuff to do ignition but the stock z31 ecu does it already.

The Z31 ecu can do nearly everything that megasqirt can do with some moding.

look at http://www.redz31.com/pages/fuel/romulator.html

and http://eccs.hybridka.com/

Some guys on hybrid ka are working on a maf to map swap,

and some one some where has even reprogramed them to use wide band O2.

So with a little know how the stock Z31 can do a lot.

It's also very cheap if you can find the parts at a cheap junk yard. maybe even less than $100 of everything and bigger injectors.

You could swap your whole harness and ECU for Z31 components, there's a How to here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=91250&highlight=Z31+harness+swap

My point exactly...

Most cars will run fine and pass emissions on an 8X8 table. 12X12, and 16X16 is really only there for the emissions requirements of an OEM---it's a lot of 'extra load point programming' that really doesn't need to be there, IMO. So that's really a moot point. Wigert got the Vector to pass US OEM Emissions Requirements with an 8X8 TEC2 system...and that was a 650HP Twin Turbo V8!

With what I've seen, the Z31 swap is as involved as the MS, and with all the extra stuff you need to have to program it, the MS is as plug-n-play if not more so than the Z31 conversion.

There are mods and extra stuff required for both system to work, it's not like you simply plug in a Z31 ECU and start tuning.
