How to find a good doctor?

Well, I guess you could say im not too pleased after what happened today.

This has been dragging on for more than a couple of years, and I've just about had it, and I'm ready to go into the garage with a hacksaw and remove my leg from my body.

Let me start from the beginning.

I've had this pain in my right leg, upper thigh area really. It sometimes extends to my right testicle. It's not "painful" but it is uncomfortable. I can't even urinate in one single trip, I often have to wait for my bladder to start the flow again. Sometimes when I sneeze, I feel a sharp pain between my balls and my right upper-inner thigh. I get the same sharp pain when I fall from high altitude, like sayyyyyyyy... dunking a ball into a basketball net, or jumping off a small roof or what have you.

So I go to the clinic.

Trip 1:

Doctor inspects my gonads. checks for hernias using the "cough for me" method with his finger shoved somewhere into my groin that I didn't even know was possible without going internal, ala prostate exam.

Checks a urine sample. Tells me that there are no "bugs" and he's not getting any physical feedback.

Tells me to go for an ultrasound to look for possibility of a small cyst hiding somewhere.

Trip 1- Continued:

I go for an ultrasound at the other clinic across the street.

The doc starts scanning my groin region, and tells me he finds nothing. I tell him to scan my nutt for good measure, and he obliges, since it's already covered in vibration resistance gel that they smear all over you.

I wipe myself clean and ask him "so what do i do?"

and he says "nothing"... and I say "so what's the point of this. what do I do if it's bad.. do you see anything?"

he says "Don't worry about it. If it doesnt kill you, you'll be fine"

I AM DOWN RIGHT PISSED at this point. Don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke about my goddamn balls like it's no big deal. I'm moreso concerned about my leg. Imagine having one leg... what the hell.

Trip 2:

Trip 1 lead nowhere. no signs of anything. this time, I get a different doc in the clinic. I tell him the story, and tell him of the senile ultrasound guy, and he says "yah, that's scary" and takes a urine sample, and shoves his finger into other areas as well.

He tells me that I'll be called when he finds out the results.

Trip 2-Continued:

I get a call from the office, they tell me I have an infection, and I must go in immediately. So I do as told.

I get there, and It's not even the same doc. WTF.

this doc denies the report and says "it cant be an infection. your kidney would have been toast by now"... so he won't give me the antibiotics, because he doesn't know what they're for.

So he recommends me to a Urologist. I'm under the impression that they're gonna stick a camera in my shlong and figure out what the hell is up with this defective testicle that I've inherited from some other wordly force.

THIS IS WHERE THE FUN STARTS:

Can't possibly get any worse right? wrong.

This new "urologist", who's name I WILL MENTION, flat out, because he's a fcuking idiot. Dr. Milad K. Barsoum.... boy what a riot this guy is.

Trip 1:

Urine sample taken first.

He asks me some questions, yada yada, pulls me into this room, and does the SAME bullshit that's been done. and says he finds nothing.

he tells me to take motrin, and come back in a week.

HELLO? I'm not trying to cover the pain, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY GODDAMN NUTTS AND LEG.

Trip 2:

Urine sample taken first. Previous sample returned negative of any bugs.

I get back in there, he asks me some stupid ass questions. I answer. and he does the same routine, and says "come back in a month"

at this point, I'm infuriated, and my parents think I'm bullshitting because this is the 5th time they feel as though I've wasted their time going to see these doctors.

Trip 3:

Urine sample taken first. Previous sample returned negative of any bugs.

So this time, I'm back in.. he asks me how I'm feeling

"The same way I've been feeling for the passed 2 years, doc... IN PAIN. my leg really hurts. I can't sleep. I need to figure this out"

He says to me... "come back in 2 months"

HELLO? ARE YOU FCUKING DEAF?

At this point, I'm more than infuriated, and I flat out told him that he's a lunatic, and that He's wasting my time.

As I storm out the door, the secretary tells me I need to reschedule.

I took advantage of the full waiting room and said "This doctor is a nutt-job, you can schedule me, I won't be back"

My dad wasn't too happy about what I'd done. But hey, I'm 22, and I like my nutts. can you blame me? oh, and the leg too.

FAST FORWARD TO TODAY:

After work, I decide to go to the hospital emergency room. My leg is in PAIN. and I can't sit straight, I can't sleep. I can't even concentrate without thinking about my right testicle exploding. and seeping down into my leg muscles, never to be found again.

I wait for 3 hours... only to be told the exact same thing. "It's nothing"

SOMEONE HELP ME.

I'm sorry to hear of your pain and of your experience with quacks. I think that there is a testicular tube that can get twisted/strangulated. The pain in your thigh can be an echo pain from this or something else.

I could REALLY RANT about how incompetent I think general practitioners and "specialists" are these days but we all already know how truly bad it has gotten. The GP's view is narrowed because they only deal with sniffles and coughs... they pass everything else to specialists. Specialist only deal with a very narrow set of symptoms so they know basically NOTHING!!! Our docs have essentially applied the Henry Ford method of manufacturing to medicine. Doc #1 only knows how to put bolt A into hole B. He passes the "vehicle" (patient) to doc #2 who can only thread bolt C into hole D, etc. Doc #2 has no idea how to do doc #1's job nor does he care. The same goes for docs 3, 4, 5... ad infinitum. It's efficient assembly line tactics that speed us through each doc, spends our money on 5 docs instead of 1 or 2, and makes them all wealthy. But... as the godfather would say, "It's not personal. It's just business".

I had something similar, only it didn't include my nutts. Pain in my right hip, drove me focking nuts for 2 weeks until I couldn't stand it anymore. Doctors didn't have a clue. Finally a nurse said, "Blood Test"!!! Staff infection, 2 weeks of antibiotics and all was better.

I'm thinking it's one of three things

Femoral Hernia

Prostate Cancer, or swollen at the least.

and now I'm reading on this Staff Infection. I've had sties before, so it could possibly be the remnance of the staph.. hmmmmmmmm.

good lead. im going to my doctor once again tomorrow, and demanding a blood test. none of this shitty urine ♥♥♥♥.

If you are the kind of person that leaves no stone unturned, you can see a chiropractor and find out if it is nerve related. It doesn't sound like it from what you've said, but you never know. Cheap insurance IMO. Good luck, man.

It might sound crazy but I would not mention this has been going on for two years. From their perspective it must not be too bad if you have put up with it for that long. I would suggest that it just started happening and it is TERRIBLE! The more you discount your uncomfortableness the less they are going to listen. If you think an antibiotic will solve the problem I would suggest reviewing symptoms that will warrant them.

Best of luck.

My experience is that motrin is good stuff. It does a good job at getting rid of inflamation and swelling.

If you can get it (perscription) Mobic is even better, does the same thing as motrin, except that its one stronger, and did not make me loopy. But then neither did Vicoden (I took 2 and still was able to function fine, I drove around all afternoon before anyone told me I shouln't)

Bingo!!

Two years ago I had pain develop in my right thigh above the knee through the hip and around the front groin area.

Aggravated the hell out of me. No matter what I did or how I was posistioned, it hurt like hell. It was a deep pain, not in the bone, not in the skin but in the muscle. It was very strange. After two months with no change I was getting worried. If I had to guess, at that time, I was thinking blood flow problems. It was like my leg was dying.

Well my lower back is not the best and every year and a half it will have a blow out. At this time I could feel the vertebrae bout to let go so bitching the whole way about getting old sucks type stuff, went to my Chiropractor. He did the yank and crank, pop and snap, herk -n- jerk thing. He measured my legs and asked if it had ever been reported to me that my legs were of unequal length. I said no. He started measuring my hips and such. Next thing I knew he had my right leg and was bracing himself for would have looked like a tug of war contest. He said "I want you to relax every muscle in your body". "I am going to count to three and give to a gental tug". "OK, One...... Then at one he yanked my leg and I thought I was going to pass out. I felt every joint from my knee to my neck. I had to lay there for a moment to get my sight back. When I stood up my back pain was gone. But guess what, so was my killer leg groin pain thing. I hadn't even mentioned it to him before.

I did after I noticed it was gone. he said the my hip bone was cocked and one vertebrae was misaligned.

He also stated that nerves in the hip joint can cause the pain if the joint pinches the nerves.

Sound close?

Do you have anything to lose?

lol @ gentle tug.

maybe I might go to a chiro.

I'm going back to the doctor that initially said that I had an infection, to see if he can take a blood test.

Thanks for the support guys

You do realize this is a car site?

I post in this section because its the non-tech section, and because most of the people who own datsun z cars are way more mature then say......the honda crowd.

and from what's been said in this post, I guess you can see that I did the right thing by posting here and getting some information on other peoples similar experiences.

are you afraid to tell people your problems as well as your name? i'm not. I'd rather keep my balls and my leg.

SCIATICA.

pinched nerve in your lower bac/hip--probably from lifting something wrong or being a boy and playing rough doing something fun.

try hanging upside down from kiddy gyms in the park. serious. relax and hang upside down. for 30-60 minutes. relaxed. totally. and take 4 advil.(800 mg) then go to sleep.

if it is not better in the morning, i would be surprised. pm me if it is not, ok??

so I went to the doc who originally referred me to the Urologist who wasted my time. Normally i wouldn't bitch about doctors.. there's only so much anyone can do.

But when someone tells me to come back later after sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours and sitting in his office for about 3 minutes, while he writes stuff down, that ticks me a little.

So the doctor told me to go seek a physiotherapist under the condition that I have "Inguinal Strain"

No fcuking ♥♥♥♥. What is causing this strain. Obviously there's a strain of somesort. but My best guess is that this is a "SPORTS HERNIA"

also known as an "athletic pubilgia"

It's not a hernia in almost any sense of the word. No torn muscular walls, no strangulation of small intestines. BUT, the small intestines could be getting ready to break through, or are at a thick part of the muscle that, while thick, is still thinner than it should be, and therefore weaker than all the muscles around it, thereby making it a weak link. They're often cavernous and because they're thinner, they allow small intestines to bunch up along the thin parts, mostly because it's easier for a straining and bulging intestine to expand the thinner parts of any musclular wall in my abdomen.

I've emailed a doctor in Wisconsin about this condition to see if he has any contacts here in Toronto that know about his study and treatment method, which is quick and virtually painless compared to the 6inch incision they would normally do for this kind of condition. I'd rather have someone he knows in Ontario, Canada take a look at this, because they probably know a thing or two about his studies and what he's achieved and how to go about getting rid of it.

z-hag... Im checking out this SCIATICA thing, I'll get back to you.

Again, gentlemen [and z-hag.. just noticed you were a woman =) ]... thanks for the support and the possible ideas. I figure it's better to look at the possibilities than to play the hit and miss game with a blindfold on.

:icon10:

EDIT: oh, btw, this doctor who told me to seek physio is the same doctor who wouldn't treat my stye that I had at one point, because I'm guessing he didn't wanna get his hands dirty. He also didn't administer a blood test when I asked him, and didnt allow me to take an MRI, or a bone scan, even after I insisted pretty forcefully compared to the other times where I seeked medical attention.

I'm beggining to think that Ontario doctors are trying to make it seem as though they're not keen on wasting time of other doctors so that OHIP doesn't have to waste money, but It's a huge scam. They just want to waste their own time, so they can get paid for doing nothing, rather than someone else taking that coin.

Don't tell em where to go, and they'll keep comin back to you, I guess is how they're thinkin.
