My LT1 trnasplant has started

Recommended Posts

At long last I am starting the LT1 transplant into my 280Z. JTR parts are on order, the header choice is getting close and today the donor car came apart. Its amazing what 4 computer technicians can do in 3 hours with a couple hydraulic jacks, an engine hoist, a bit of insanity and 3 saws-alls! Since my plan is to sell much of this Z28 nothing is left but the body shell. I called a few local salvage yards and no one would take the shell without some usable parts. So we cut it up in manageable chunks and will haul it to the dump ourselves. Now that the Z28 is out of the garage I will pull in the 280Z and pull the engine and transmission. The big picture will involve one of those "while I'm at it" things. I'm replacing much of the wiring harness too, since this car has been a continual source of electrical issues, mostly because of the previous owners obvious lack of electrical knowledge and or skills. I my dreams I hope to be running for SEZ8 but somehow I doubt that will happen.

The Z28 engine and 4L60E. Gotta clean it up a bit and put the headers on.

Z28 body, hard to believe this was once a whole body shell.

Congratulations Deja !!!!

I finally made a choice and not to far behind you, I won a LS1/4l60E on Ebay that will arrive next week. I still plan on using the Twist-machine paddle-shifters and post how all goes. Good Luck on your swap !!!

Wish I had the resourses to go LS1 but ya gotta draw the line somewhere, LOL. The paddle shifter is in my long range plans too, they are just too cool.
