AKWIKZ
Based on signature's I currently own more imports than you! Not to mention twice the nissans!!!! Good try, but not quite. My sig is merely of my favorite toys cars. Listing all of the Nissans I have owned would nearly require it's own thread. But, in the interest of total disclosure, here is what I currently own; 2005 Armada 1992 D21 V6 4x4 (Hardbody) 1991 WD21 V6 4x4 (Pathfinder) 1973 GT-R And what I have owned in just the last 5 years 2003 Xterra V6 2000 Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 1991 D21 V6 1990 WD21 V6 4x4 1989 S13 hatch 1989 S13 coupe 1994 RNN14 GTi-R 1992 R32 1974 KGC110 Skyline 1971 KGC10 Skyline 1969 S30 1970 S30 x3 1971 S30 1972 S30 x2 1973 S30 1981 280ZX turbo 1982 280ZX turbo x2 1983 280ZX turbo 1972 510 1972 1200 1967.5 spl311 If I went back any further than 5 years it would start to get really cluttered. AKWIKZ
Maybe your not as good of a driver as you think.. A few months ago at moroso some guy brought out his new z06 he bought the same day. He was running mid 11's the whole night!! I watched this with my own eyes!! I have no reason to lie! Tell these guys about your 12 second runs with a new zo6 and how good of a driver you are!! haha http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1876797 You see, this I can believe. I honestly think that a good driver on a good night could get one into the 11's. And I'm sure that as the production has gone over the last few years Chevy has made improvements along the way. A newer one may very well be faster than an early one. I will make one more point though. Does anyone else find it funny that no where was the credibility of the Corvette challenged yet someone felt the need to interject how it could beat the GT-R? Testing aside I am amused at the apparent fear the Corvette bretheren have of the release of the GT-R. It seems than most threads regarding this car at some point end up with a comment on how "such and such Corvette will smoke it". If that truly is the case then I am somewhat perplexed at the attention Corvette owners seem to pay the GT-R. Brian

Brian I said currently and I based them from signatures. I can make a huge list as well. If I added up every car I've owned in the past. To be honest with you I like all most every rear wheel and all wheel car made. I like each and every one for what it is nothing more nothing less. If it were up to me I would have 300 different cars hybrids and all!!! As much as I love Nissan as well as GM and everything else. You can like whatever you want. At the same time. You can't really call yourself or anyone a true experienced accomplished opened mined car / sports car enthusiast. That only will drive and appreciate one brand period. There is more to the world of performance/cars than Nissan can provide. Or any other one manufacture!
garvice
I remember recieving an email of the VW Passat factory a couple of years ago. It was truly amazing, makes the GTR factory look dirty. This thing had wooden floors and conveyours like at the airport but with wood not plastic, the cars were at a height that you were always standing at an ergonomic height to work properly. It was a lot more impressive than what I can explain. I will try and dig up the powerpoint, Truly amazing

Mikelly
I think it's laughable that anyone owning "any" brand of car would be "in fear" of the release of the new Nissan. As has been shown thru many many videos on Youtube, The car doesn't make the driver... Brian, Enjoy the release and let us know when you get yours. I'd love to get your real world impressions of the car. Mike
Mikelly
I don't think we'll see any of those new ZR1s running around. Guys will scoop them up and sit on them, thinking they'll be worth more than they are. Plus the mark up is gonna be nuts. Mike I have a co-worker who made it a point to make sure I read the article in Motor Trend "Corvette Killer" and email the video of the assembly process. Even though there assembly process is great, for the money I would go ZO6 and a used one at that (prices are going down). The GTR may find it's niche, but GM has the new Corvette ZR1 due out, and I do not think Nissan can counter punch the ZR1. Just my 2 cents. JMortensen
And as for your apparent dislike for unbiased reporting you will need to forgive me for taking the word of a well established and proven magazine over yours. Time and time again both of the magazines I mentioned have proven accurate and reliable. Car magazines have a long and deserved reputation for being anything but unbiased and truthful. The Ford Taurus was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for how many years??? Wonderful car, that Taurus... I would also say that I believe the reports of 10's in Z06's. If you read the thread that Mike Kelly started there are quite a few people reporting the same.
Mikelly
Yup and the same day I pulled front wheels on my launch back on November 12th the same guy in that link was running his Z06 with the stock wheels/tires and turning 11.19s at 126-127MPH. Anyone who doubts the potential of the 2006-2008 Z06 is living in a dream world and if it weren't for the fact that I'm pushing 100HP more at the crank, I couldn't keep ahead of them in my little Ubber VW. The reason noone challenged the creds of the Z06 is simple. They've been battling it out hard and heavy in the ALMS and elsewhere, and the foundation built by the previous generation Corvette pretty much paved the way. The C5 Z06 was an amazing and obtainable car, and does many things well, for the money. The C6Z06 took it up several notches. I can tell you that anyone driving a C6 Corvette, Z06 or standard fare, isn't going to be "scared" of a GT-R. A standard 2008 C6 will probably run very similar times to the GT-R, at $20K+ less cost. If the GT-R is as good a car as the Z06, they'll still have to deal with the same issue my car is plagued by... To much WEIGHT! It's a nice car Brian, but it's one of many...Let us know when you get yours. I'll expect a full write up. Mike
AKWIKZ
These are all interesting points. Maybe I am just a bit more open to spending that kind of money on a Japanese car than most. Having had a fair bit more time behind the wheel of multiple Skylines than most American buyers I have more of an affinity for them. But I have never been shy about admitting my bias. The best I try to do is not make too many random comments about others. I do however consider myself more open than most to the realities of the car scene. Never have I said the Vette is anything less than a great car. But for some reason it always seems to be a Vette guy that brings the comparison up, to whatever car is being discussed at the time, and this is what I am amused by. As if the only way a car could be considered successful is how it measures up to the Vette. Look at this posting for an example. We'll see I guess. Mikelly
That's funny, because I know of no Vette owners who would compare their cars to any four seat car, save for the Porsche 911. They simply don't think in terms of four seat sedans, which for some reason the BMW M3 is constantly compared to the vette by the bimmer crowd. Haven't heard much about the GT-R and I'm on the largest vette site on the internet about five times per day. Maybe it's because of the road racer crowd I run with, but that's all I can base my comments on. Brian, With that list of cars you posted, I have to ask, How many of them were drivable? I've owned 22 S-30s in the last 20 years and only had about 12 of them in running/safe condition... Mike
AKWIKZ
Running, or running and safe? Because at least a few of them were downright death traps at one time. Seriously though, all of the "non-classics" were daily drivers/commuter cars for me or my wife. All of the ZX turbos were purchased with the only intent of stripping them of their drivetrains so that they could be installed in the multiple S30's I had. My friends and I managed to make a decent amount of fun money selling turbocharged S30's back in San Diego. The 510 was a beauty when I sold it and only lacked a drivetrain as I had converted it to RHD, installed CDM fiberglass hood, trunk, flares, and fenders and then had it painted in Porsche Guards Red. The 1200 project never got off the ground and was bone stock when I got it and when I sold it a year later. The '71 Skyline was running and driving when I got it as was the '74. The '67.5 Roadster was one of my favorites. I was the first in the U.S. to swap an SR20det into one. Mine was wolf in sheeps clothing. Big T3/T4 turbo on an S13 redtop with an SDS EMS. Full comp suspension with 944 turbo Brembo front brakes and R32 GT-R rears. I broke 2 rear ends in less than 2 months at the track. It was scary fast. 250hp and 2000#'s. Not a bad combo. Good times.......good times. Brian
Mikelly
So I finally got around to reading the "feature" on the GT-R in Road And Track. This car weighs in at 3830+ pounds??? And they're claiming that it'll do 0-60 in approximately 3.5 seconds? At 480BHP? That's 7.9# per HP. To give a comparison, My 3564# 610BHP 996TT is 5.8# per HP. And you wonder why people think Nissan is being overly optomistic? The 2007 Z06 Corvette is pushing 6.23# per hp. These give you some comparisons. Maybe Nissan has found the holy grail of torque management with their transmission/transfer of weight/power. Time will tell and bench racing is fun and all. But until I see it stateside and in the hands of a private owner that I can "sample it" with, I ain't buying... That said, If it is what nissan claims, I do have the means buy one and may well, if they haven't published false "claimed" numbers. I'm dubios at this point though. Mike I really think there should be no doubt about those claims. AWD off the line then controlled gradual transfer getting rid of that extra drive train loss, each wheel controlled individually... With 480hp, and I think a 7 speed? The lower gears are geared like a evo only up top it has more room for top speed. Every gtr power rating has been found to be significantly lower then actual tests as well(Japan gentleman agreement aside). Will that trend continue, Idk. All this and you get a ROOMY interior not 2 cramped cup seats like some big names. You could put 2 bodies in the trunk, have three guests in the car and be on your way, or hit the track empty, or go get groceries with your family. I believe the car is on another level and is well worth the 70k. This whole thread is speculation though until people are able to get their hands on a few. I don't have the means to buy one but I do have the means to drive one and I will lol.
djbit
I guess by now we all know the released numbers were more than true. I wonder how other car makers are going to adjust this performance for price deal. The upcoming 2010 V-Spec GTR is doing 7.25 lap times at Nürburgring: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/08/nissan-gt-r-v-spec-lap-times-stun-observers/ I had a chance to see the GTR in person this past weekend at the Stillen Nissan day. It looks like a MEAN machine to me, way nicer in person. We were allowed to sit in it and I did wet my pants a little. Anyways, brand fan boys are sure struggling accepting what a bad ass car this is. You gotta love it. Here's the story behind the highly debated lap times: http://www.drivers-republic.com/news/news_article_14_05_08.cfm Adding more fuel to the fire: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/japanese_performance/competitors_in_the_crosshairs_2009_nissan_gt_r_feature/(page)/1 Alex
