auxilary
Hey folks, time for me to shell out some change for new tires for the Z. I'm looking at getting 225/50/15 tires. Key notes - i live in california, so my only concern for weather is occasional rain, and I can manage with summer tires all year round if I drive carefully in the wet (which I do, I have falken azenis on my neon, and those don't grip much in the rain). I would love to get a set of falken azenis for the Z, however, they don't make it in the size I want. I would also spend money on the yokohama avs intermediates (had them on the neon before the falkens), but the problem is that they're discontinued now. Their replacements are AVS es100 tires, which are supposed to be a good combo for the street and occasional autox with good grip. They're $80/piece for 225/50/15. My question is if anyone has used the ES100 tires, and if they have any feedback? They seem to be pretty good tires, and not too bad on cost factor ($80/piece). ANy other recommendations I should look at? Keep in mind I'd like to keep costs as low as possible, and there's still a mount/balance fee to consider (another $80)

80LS1T
I think Geirmann is running those on his 280ZX! Maybe he will chime in here and give an opinion on them. From what I have heard they are a very nice tire. I was thinking of getting them for my 17x7's! Guy

Guest greimann
I just mounted up a set of AVS ES100, 235/45-17 on my ZX. I chose them mainly for looks, price and performance, in that order. I don't drag race or auto cross, just good hard street driving. So far I am very pleased. I can take my favorite off-ramp at maximum speed . Another interesting quality is they have an AA traction rating. I have never seen a double A rating before.
slownrusty
I just bought a set of ES100s 215/45/17 in front and 235/40/17 in the back and look forward to putting some hard miles on them. Yasin

auxilary
David, you're selling tires that aren't as grippy as I need them to be, and they're 20mm too small. I have 205s on the car right now, and at 205/50 my speedo would be about 7-8mph off, on top of it being 5mph at 60 already due to 3.545 gears
David K
Oh, i was meaning to give you the info in the first post made by jwelch. You said you wanted Azenis. Btw, i have those ziex's on my car now and i absoulutly HATE them. They have to be the crappiest tire i have ever had. I do like the wheel guard though. I worked for many years in a tyre shop and tried many various tyres on my car, and always went back to the Falkens. As an all around mid performance tyre, and for the price, nothing can beat them. I have said this many times, and My car and my wife's Volvo 850 run them. Of course they're not racing tyres, but I challenge anyone to find a tyre that gives:Good dry and wet grip Good (quiet) roadnoise Long mileage EXCELLENT affordability. Because of the very high natural rubber content (as apposed to synthetic rubber)of the tyres, the first 100 to 200 miles are slick, but after that let her rip!! I don't want to turn this post into a tyre comparison rant, but had to give my 2c worth. Tim

Well, I have Azenis on one car, and i'd get them for the Z if they made them in 225/50. but they don't. I have them on the neon, and this is by far the grippiest tire next to r-compound tires i've ever driven with
David K
OH since it rained today, i have to say the Falken 512's i have are a GREAT tire afterall. What would be a tad wheelspin from a stop, turned into acceleration. Yeah, changed my mind today, good tire for the $. Tim, Falken discontinued the 502 and replaced them with the 512 i think this year.
