Gollum
Hey everyone. I'm at the last hurdle in my swap, and I just wanna get this thing on the road. Issue: 2+2 T5 has a different output spline count than the 2 seater T5. This makes using the 2 seater shaft impossible. All shops I've talked to don't wanna work on the shaft and tell me that the yokes can't be replaced without damaging them. Questions: Can my stock L28E take the power as long as I'm gentle on it? I'd assume so... Is the nissan tranny going to bolt onto my engine just fine and be compatible with the stock flywheel/clutch? Again, I just want to get this on the road. I'm going to keep looking around for another T5, one from a 2 seater, and swap that instead, since I already have the shaft for it.
nismopick
There shouldn't be a difference between 2seater & 2+2 T5's.... I have a T5 from both and I know they have the same output splines because I've interchanged them. Do you need a 2seater or 2+2 length driveshaft? On my original turbo project my donor was a 2seater, my car was a 2+2... I took the driveshaft to a local driveshaft shop, and for $100 they lengthened & balanced it for me. Took less than 24 hours too.
Gollum
I need a 2 seater length driveshaft. The other possability is that the shaft I got wasn't really from a 2 seater turbo, but it most certainly isn't from a L28E as it's just as beefy and huge as my turbo 2+2 shaft, and it's definately the correct length. I'm gonna call some more shops, and see if anyone can balance a shaft with the yokes on, therefore negating the need to remove them.
slownrusty
2+2 T5 = Coupe T5 - identical!! The regular NA Speed is generally known as the "B" series tranny and will handle lots of power (400hp easy, I believe Sustin 240hoke had one in his heavily mod'd L28Turbo), just watch those powershifts and clutch dumps and drag racing situations. I have a T5 and a Bseries in the garage, I can take pics if you need a side by side comparo? Regards - Yasin
Gollum
hmm, that's really weird then. Because I KNOW I have a T5, I know the difference. And I KNOW the shaft I bought from a guy selling a L28ET T5 is NOT to the nissan B tranny. If it'll hold I think I'm just gonna use the B tranny and treat it nice. I'm thinking i'm just gonna sell the thing anyways. There's a 240Z i'm trying to buy right now. So the earlier question remains, can I use the flywheel+clutch from the T5 with the B tranny? You just need to be sure that the collar is correct for the clutch and bellhousing so that when you push the clutch pedal to the floor the clutch is fully and properly released.
