youngblood
i just got me an 88 z31 not that long ago and it seems that the jack asses that owned it before me dinted up the frame rails by jacking it up from the wrong spot. it really bugs me because oneday i might try to make my car showcar worth and i'm a perfectionest and i want my car clean as hell from the top to bottom. my friends 280zx is the some way. i don't know why the underside of Zs are made of such wack flimzy material. i was woundering if the dints sacrifice my chassis rigidity and if there is any way to fix this problem. dsommer
Huh? Gotta love it when PO jacked the car up by the floor board (see passenger side on the Scarab grrrrr)
NZeder
Don't know what your local laws are on the bent chassis rails but here in NZ I have heard of 3 zed's failing our WOF checks (Warrant of Fitness) and therefore not road legal (we have these checks every 6 months) = big expense to get the car back on the road. bjhines
That is typical damage. It often happens during off-road excursions, running down deer, dogs, armadillos...... and idiot mechanics. It is not a car killer because the floors and their "frame rails" are not the only chassis supporting structures. In fact the floors do very little for chassis support at all. Too bad for the fellas who's cars were needlessly junked due to poorly thought out local laws.
Chemicalblue
My dad bought me the car in my sig for my first car at 16, and that year my high school installed 20 curb size speed bumps. There was no way into the parking lot unless you drove over 5 of them! Thats 10 sledge hammer like blows to the frame rails, everyday, for four years! They are flat now... Devil-Z
It's a unibody chassis, just like 99% of cars built today. That happens to most cars. The "frame" rails are not really frame rails, but they do add rigidity to the chassis. However they are hollow. It waon't really hurt the car. If it bothers you, you could always pay someone or do it yourself and cut out and re-weld the rails.

gretchen/jason
Thats a sweet frame conector . It would be nice someone could measure the under side of a miata frame rail to frame rail and compare it to a z who knows ya might get luck and have to make very minor adjustments to the sub frame conector . That would be sweet if it would fit a z . Next time a miata shows up at work for a free oil change or we get one off the truck to put on the lot ill measure it out ..
