zmaster
This is a link to the paint i just bought at my local auto paint shop. It is a flat black, which has a hardener to make it durable without a clearcoat. It will Not chalkup, or fade. http://sem.ws/product.php?product_id=
TrumpetRhapsody
Cool! I'll be interested to see how this turns out. Most home-brew paint jobs around here consist of rustoleum, which I was down for till I decided to try something metallic (oh boy). I think I've decided to get a black epoxy primer to start with, and just leave the car in that (paint store said it would be fine) till I'm ready to sand it down and paint it (months likely). The flat black primer should look cool for awhile till I can get paint.
zmaster
Ican't wait to lay it down on my car....i still have to sand everything smooth.more and more bodywork to go. so far i have the wiper cowl, and the drivers door bondoed, sanded, and prined. the same goes for the hatch.and the passengers side eye cup, and the little doors that cover the battery, and the brake cylnder. Guest 280zfast
we just started to paint zmasers car with the hot rod black kit. today w painted the hood, drivers side door, one of the headlight bucets, the gas door, and one of the little flaps thatcover the washer fluid resevoir. We are going to let it cure for 24 hours, then we will wax and buff out the paint, pics will be up soon on his photobucket website. so far the paint looks beautiful it looks a lot better then what we planned it would. ls1Hybridz
i dont wanna sound like an *******, but all paint fades even if it has a clearcoat or single stage, its just the way uv rays effect the paint.
Evan Purple240zt
Its common knowledge with most paint, that you are not to use ANY wax for at least a month. Could be different with your stuff, but you really need to look into it. Evan
Guest 280zfast
I will definately look into howlong before I can wax the paint.....and the paint isn't supposed to fade that much, I knew it would fade but not as bad as it would if it was just a flat black primer. ls1Hybridz
theres a company called wizard detailing products based in Minnesota, they make a product called shine master. it is made to give cars that wax look and feel right after painting. its designed to breath so the new paint can fully cure. all the products are water based and they can be applied with any buffer or by hand if you really want to put that much effort into it. some auto paint stores carry them and they are about 12-16 a bottle depending on who's selling it. zmaster
painted everything except the passenger door, and the car itself so the car is almost out of body and paint jail.I have to fix some dents in the passenger door, and the drivers side rocker, and the car still needs to be wet sanded, then it will get painted, hopefully pics will be up this week of my progress., and the car should be finished by the end of this week....I'm so happy
TravRMK
Yes don't wax it untill it has had time to fully cure! Depending on the paint it could be as long as a month before full cure if you are not useing heat lamps.
jknc90
You're going to wax flat black paint?
G.I.jonas
You're going to wax flat black paint? I was wondering the same thing?? Try some gloss paint and dont wax it - should be easier.
jknc90
I guess he wants to bring out the glossy shine of flat(gloss-less and/or shine-less) paint?

zmaster
you all have a point there. guess I wount wax the paint. I just wanted some extra protection from the weather. Now that I hear it waxing flat paint it does seem stupid to do.
zmaster
Finished painting the whole car the other day. Hopefully i will get pictures up soon. just recieved my door window the other day, and installed it, but it wont roll all the way up, i have to allign it. And I am putting the car back together. I also broke all of the bolts on the headlight buckets that attatch it to the fender so i am drilling out the old bolts and putting new ones in an that pretty much wraps up all the paint andbody work I have done to my car. zmaster
Here is the car completely painted, I do have a fewbubbles, but I expected that, because I have never painted a car before EVER. But I am still happy on the way it looks. From 5 feet away you really can't tell if there are imperfections in the paint. here is a link to my photobucket account check out my pics of the car http://s296.photobucket.com/albums/mm195/hybridzmaster/ Oh does anyone know how to correctly allign the door windows? It starting to be a pain in the A** I just can't figure it out.
