fhptom Posted April 1, 2008 Share Posted April 1, 2008 I have been playing with my new camcorder(JVC Everio HDD) and I get great video downloaded onto my computer. When I upload to YouTube it looks like crap. Almost blurry or grainy like it was down back in the 70s. I have tried .mov, .mod. and .mpeg formats all with same results. I know clean video can be had on You Tube just not sure what I should try next. I am using a DSL connection. Any thoughts. Tom PS. You can see my videos under same name fhptom. TrumpetRhapsody Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 They claim MPEG2 is best to upload, but I've had best results with either: Straight h.264 or .mov (h.264 codec) Be sure to set it to progressive scan, 320x240, and as high of a bitrate as you are comfortable waiting to upload. Calgary280ZT Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 What about Windows Media Files? MPEG and MPEG2 are generally too large for streaming. We cut back to 10 or 15 fps depending on the amount of movement, and degrade the audio as much as possible. We get pretty good quality at 1mb/per finished minute at 320x240. JMortensen Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Some newer camcorders have a 30fps mode, which supposedly cuts in half to the 15fps that you'll see on the web more cleanly than either 32 or 24. Calgary280ZT Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 Make the highest quality uncompressed AVI file you can. Use that as the source file for the WMV encoder. Then experiment with the audio and video codec settings, e.g. mono instead of stereo, two pass encoding, etc. You should be able to make a WMV file that plays great on youtube with no or minimal motion artifacts. Sometimes it helps to know how to use something before you start using it. But that takes the fun out of just ripping open the box and just using it.
