~KnuckleDuster~
I attempted to seach for this and didn't come up with anything. When shifting and or abruptly letting off the gas I get a loud knock from the rear. It will do it on and off but it seems worse when cold.. any ideas or suggestions? This is on a 71 TIA -Adam

Hopelessly Confused
I second travrmk''s advice. I had the same problem with my '75 280 and it ended up being the u-joint on my half-shaft.
~KnuckleDuster~
I second knuckleduster's advice. I had the same problem with my '75 280 and it ended up being the u-joint on my half-shaft. Remember how much it cost to fix?
Challenger
First check your u joints like travis said. I had the same knocking noise and it turned out the driveshaft u joint was shot.

Hopelessly Confused
Sorry knuckleduster, I can't help you with price. I just pulled a good half-shaft off my parts car.
woldson
I believe it was quite cheep, around $40 for joints and someone to remove them. I did the joints on my 82. When I had them in a 20 ton press to remove the joint I had to lay into it kinda hard than BOOOM parts went flying eveywhere! I finished the shaft my self and had a diesal place do the other. Luckly there was no damage to the yoke. Outside of it been slow to pull the half shafts its not too bad, and dose not have to be done offen. AK-Z
could also mean that you need new bushings for the front diff mount.
mannyvig
I have driven in that car just a dew days before you bought it and I know for a fact that it is the front diff mount.
m4xwellmurd3r
i've got a busted diff mount too i bet. actually it just needs new bushings all around. I can't jack the car up from the diff because the diff just lifts up. in lower gears if I gun it too hard it'll knock too hahaha
