SHO-Z
How many Hybridzer’s are making decision on what to do with the Z based on to the high gas prices or the economy? I have for one. One example: OK some of you will call me stupid for not buying it, about a month ago I could have bought a 280Z with running 350 V8, 4 spd auto, dual exhaust, MSA ground effects kit for under $2K. All it really needed by the pictures was paint and the interior done. I passed it up, didn’t want to waste the gas driving the 40 miles each way to see it. I did finally decide to see it, in that I had to go that way anyway a few days later but it was gone. Oh well I couldn’t decide if I wanted to get anything that didn’t get decent MPG. Heck I haven’t put 2 tanks of gas thru my Z in the past year. I am still running gas that cost around $3 a gallon, what should I care. So are gas prices and the economy effecting your project decisions?
Challenger
Yep. I bought my car 5 years ago and NEVER expected gas to be this high. I assumed Id be able to go WOT everywhere but now Ill have to be careful.
woldson
I'am now in the process of deciding to build my turbo engine to be a "flex fuel" capabale engine. All natural rubber has to go, possibly fuel lines and valve guilds. Stuff seems to like to eat a few products. With the initial build going to be meth inj, being able to fill up with meth mabe able to run just water to the injector. Gollum pm'ed me some very thought provoctive information concerning my possible decision. I figure change is coming, might as well stay ahead of the curve. deja
I'm still driving my LT1 Z every day to work. Hey, it get better gas mileage (18.6 in town) than my truck and its so-o-o-o much more fun to drive! But I am retiring at the end of this month and am thinking about picking up something that gets better mileage as a grocery getter. But you have to do the math on how long it would take to break even on buying a car just because it gets better mileage. I'm also thinking about maybe building something electric as a fun project anyway.
ShaggyZ
I may be ditching the Z altogether.
Armand
Thats why I went with an SR20DET swap. With my original carb'd l28 I was getting on average 12-13mpg. I calculated with the current fuel prices, if I was to get on average 27mpg on the SR20, after driving 30,000 miles the fuel savings alone would pay off everything for the engine swap! psdenno
In spite of the economy, it's still fun to pour money into my Z - probably a sure sign of addiction. The new AC gets installed shortly, followed by paint & interior. Then, I'm sure there will be more. It never ends. I've owned it for 37 years, it owes me nothing, it rewards me greatly. How can you put a price on that? Dennis
m4xwellmurd3r
XD I live next door to work, but my Z doesn't currently run. Once it is up and running, I'll drive it all I want though. I don't need it for work. So gas prices to me, don't really bug me...too much.
fhptom
I can tell you that having to work the road everyday that the number of cars on the roads have not declined. And that is not just people commuting to work. The pleasure drivers are still out in force every day and keeping me in a job. Now if I can find the time to go out track my car would be a different story. Tom
