I did a search and found out 'bout power traxx. Called 'em. No luck. Called Reider. None avail. 'till mid summer (?). Seemed uncertain 'bout THAT date. So...what do I use in a R200? Break the bank and put a Quaife? Are there any deals to be had on these (quaifes)? Options?

thanks folks

The physical Quaife unit alone retails for $1200 typically and a full rebuild(all bearings/seals/shims etc)/setup runs $500+ for an R200. I offer a package including A to Z whereby the quaife unit and the complete rebuild/setup cost is $1550 if you supply a good core R200 (ie. decent gears) smile.gif Setup is done by a very competent shop.

Some info written up on my site if interested.

Demidion,

To my knowledge, Phantom Grip does not offer a conversion kit for the Z car differential. It would be nice if they did because the Quaife is a very expensive LSD. Hence the reason a lot of members are trying and using the Q45 diff.

Let me know if I'm wrong on the Phantom Grip.

danno, i called john at phantom and he has a unit for the 240sx r200. i then called nismo and now understand that the difference in the r200's b/w the z's and the 240sx is the pinion length. the rest of the guts are the same. i then sent phantom my guts from my r200, he measured and said it was the same. my phantom is on the way and should b in the car by end of april [once the snow is completely gone, i'll road test it].

The difference between the Z's R200 and the 240SX R200 is the lengh of the pinion shaft and the side stubs (axle shafts?). The side stubs are a different lengh to engage the viscous coupler in the 240SX R200. The Z's R200 side stubs will go in both of the R200s but depending on the where the (Zs 89 and earlier) internal parts are I would be careful. The ring gear bolts on a 240SX and Z32 ring gears are 12mm 86 and older Z's are 10mm.

The newer 240 and z32 side stubs can work I think but the CV cups will need to be cut off and a flat plate welded on for the Ujoint half shaft to bolt on. If anybody has questions I can email some pictures of how far I have gotten so far. I am putting a Z32 R200 LSD carrier in a older 83 housing and trying this out.

  • 2 weeks later...

just received my phantom grip lsd. it installed w/o too much difficulty and looks as though it will do the trick. still waiting for my radiator to be finished and i'll then have the z back on the road again-can't wait. once i have put some power to the phantom, i'll post again my thoughts.

ps-i ordered the same application they list for the 240sx r-200. no problem with the fit. coollook.gif
