kcambron Posted December 21, 2008 Share Posted December 21, 2008 Will a 1975 trans x member work on my 1973? I'm putting in a "stock" 5 speed from a 1981 280zx. I'm to the point of welding in new floor pans and I would like to brace up the trans tunnel area (my 73 project didn't have a trans xbrace in it). z-ya Posted December 23, 2008 Share Posted December 23, 2008 No, I don't think you can use a 280Z cross member in a 240Z. The 240Z cross member bolts upward into captured nuts in the mounting points. rturbo 930 Posted December 23, 2008 Share Posted December 23, 2008 Wait a sec, I think I've misinterpreted. This is a pic of the mounts on my 240z. My 280z looks the same (well, with less rust). Are these the horizontal or vertical mounts? Seems pretty vertical to me, but I was thrown off since you mentioned the 280z uses horizontal bolts. Maybe it's the 77-78 280zs only? Joe Oh. It appears I can't read today. My bad. Anyways, now that that's cleared up, 240z has vertical bolts, 280z has horizontal bolts. 240z is a 11 or 12/71, 280z is a 1/76.
