pparaska
That's probably the best mix of parts to get there without alot of fab work. And it will probably handle even more torque and hp than that. After that, I'd go to the R230, but there everything gets custom.
PETEW
I am really lost after looking at carparts.com. I went and looked for 87-89 300zx w/ turbo and there are a ton of diffs (carriers) listed that don't have the locking/LSD rear. I thought all turbo models came with a LSD. Am I goofy, or are they putting non turbo rears in under the turbo section. If I can get a clutch type LSD for $300 I will do that rather than the Phantom Grip. Thanks for the help guys. PETEW
Oh crap! I forgot to ask, was there any difference between stick and auto 300ZX turbo rears in '87. I thought they were both 3.70 LSD rears. Thanks again.
Mike C
They were both 3.70 rears, but the LSD was a running change in '87. Not ALL '87 trubos had LSD, but ALL 88-89 did. If they don't say in the ad it is, it might not be. $300 for an open r200 is a poking IMO.
z ya
If the diff does not have the finned cover then its not a l/s diff?? I see alot of 87 turbos but they never have the finned cover so I left them alone.
pparaska
If the non-LSD R200s in those years are 2-spider diffs, then wouldn't an easy check be to just look through the opening for the side shafts (if the diff is out, this should be easy)? If you see a bar/rod going through the hole sideways, then it's an open diff, No?
biohzrd
i know its a little off subject but for the r230 out of a q45 what years do you look for. also if it has traction control or not. are all q45 rears lsd or are there different versions. i can find alot of q45 rears and was just wondering
