Ivan280zt
looking awesome. Are you going to put interior back in or paint the inside? I am going to put most of the interior back in the driver/passenger compartment. Factory door panels wont fit anymore due to the cage so I am just going to build some nice covers for them if money permits they will be made of carbon fiber. For the hatch are I would really like to paint it and leave it alone but it will most likely end up with some factory covers and some sheet metal covers. Right now I am working on closing all the holes in the interior including firewall and right afther that Bad Dog frame rails are getting fitted. Ivan280zt
As of past two months I have been working on rust repair, closing all the random holes, and frame rails upgrade I figured that this would be good time to post pictures of finished radiator. I ran into little issue where driver side radiator hose was too short with two -16 fittings on there hose would have been only about 2-3 inches long which would bind up and not look very good. To fix that issue radiator was made into dual pass unit with inlet/outlet on the same side. Here are pictures of that process. Dividing the end tank Moroso cap and filler neck All done Welded from inside Edited June 29, 2010 by Ivan280zt
Ivan280zt
I figured that since I have made some good progress on underbody of the Z it would be appropriate time to post some pictures of how its all coming together. Bad Dog frame rails (great quality and amaizing fitment) Yes I know it looks like crap but I am working on improving that... I ended up cutting all the rust spots on the old rails out and fitting the new ones over. Fittment of the Bad Dog rails is fantastic it just took few hours to put stock rails back into original shape lol. Test fitting JT of F@D Autocare rocking out with his welder Getting there! Two coats of primer Same thing on the passenger side frame rail For the next little project I am going to fixt that rusted out box in the trans tunnel. More on that later on this week. Ivan280zt
Last few times that I worked on the Z I forgot to bring the camera so I will just explain what was done instead. All the edges were smoothed out to perfect finish few edges were rolled over each other in the back (no pics) until everything turned out into somewhat "factory" look. Afther that all the rivets got cut out and everything got welded. Kinda hard to tell in the picture but the welds turned out awesome JT really did awesome job! There were two seperate welds per one corner (two corners) that is why there are two very wide spots of seam sealer. Same thing was done from inside of the car. I belive thats about it for now I am not planning on doing much work over the next few weeks since I have decent amount of side work to do and its really getting hot down here... Ivan280zt
Funny thing how few weeks worth of side work end up turning into six months worth of building and fixing your friends cars but its all good I got myself $10K for doing it. Even though I did not work on my Z in over six months that did not mean that I could not stock up on parts so that way when side work is done I would have most of the parts ordered and ready to be installed. Well I finished my last motor build three weeks ago and I am taking break from everyone elses crap and going full time on my project I sure have been dreaming about this time for over six months! Here are pictures of what I have waiting on to be installed: Painless wiring harness and switch box for whole car RCI five point harness for both seats and hardware kit Weldon fuel filter with bracket and fuel pressure regulator with true -8 return Gsc S2 cams (10.2mm lift with 274deg duratin), Gsc beehive springs with titanium retainers, and ID (injector dynamics) 1000cc injectors Eagle electronics 2jz 200amp alternator and BIC performance solid engine mounts All star catch can with summit -10an fittings and -10an hose B&M pro rachet, B&M oil cooler, lokar dipstick, summit fittings and 20feet of -6an hose Haltech platinum sport 2000 with haltech wide band and race pack display dash Crap load worth of $$$ in OEM parts (did I mention that I left Jaguar and now work as Lexus tech!) Twin turbo oil pump, crank sensor, coil cover, headgasket, timing belt... -16an fitting and hose for radiator Used twin turbo valve covers with -10an fittings AEM 5bar map sensor and two 150psi pressure sensors Helmet hook, tool for -3/-4an ptfe lines Fuel system fitting and hoses -10an for feed and -8an for return Custom made radiator fan and shroud for my particular setup Por 15 with prep chemicals and 100square feet of floor insulation Neil Chance torque convertor little over 3K rpm stall (used for 150 miles) Billet distributor block off plate Floor drain plugs from MSA Brand new OEM twin turbo coils M&W pro 16cdi box (stupid expensive!} and ngk iridium plugs TRD oil cap, TRD 160deg thermostat, and haltech single channel hall sensor ATI Th-350 with JW bell housing full reverse manual valve body and trans brake (yeah like I will use that on my r200 lol) Dash cap from MSA I hope that this update is worthy for six month absence of updates : ) More updates in next two weeks... Ivan280zt
Man I cant even begin to explaing how I feel about rust repair... For what is worth I am trying to find all the small spots of rust and repair them so here are some pictures of that and some other random crap. This is what was left of my factory trans crossmember mounts Much better here Cut this whole piece out and replaced it with steel plate Welded and sealed Here you can see three square spots that had to be cut out and redone I ended up selling my MSA urethane air dam becuase that thing was flexing whenever I would go over 100mph so now I am going to run stock 280z lover valance with carbon fiber BRE replica "spook" sp? lower lip This part was sooooo much fun...NOT!!! Down to the factory primer. I took alot of crap off this is just from small section Edited April 28, 2011 by Ivan280zt
Ivan280zt
I guess when you do this few hours a night over two week period it really does not feel like alot of work was done. When I got middle section of the car stripped to some decent level I took front fenders off and started working on fender wells. Not done yet but it looks better already. Rust spot right under the sway bar mount on driver side frame rail just great... Talk about pile of garbage 3 of the struts were blown (bad strut section job from years ago), every bushing, ball joint, steering rack all just gone to **** but thats OK this is good time to replace all of it "while I am at it" LoL Got the 280z strut housings, stub axles, and R200 LSD finned cover from parts car at F&D AutoCare (local Z car specialist) Edited April 28, 2011 by Ivan280zt

Ivan280zt
Sorry if you mentioned it already. but what are you doing with the rearend. ??? LSD R200 out of Z31 with matching axles and modern motorsports billet adapters.
stony
If you haven't laid down cash yet i would seriously consider the TTT rear struts and use the larger r230 with CV axles from a gtr or Z31. unless you can find larger stub axles they WILL break at the track. Stony, I got all the stuff for CV conversion about 2.5 years ago but since my car has been down I let JTaylor use my billet adapters and axles on his RB25 280z and he has been running mid 9's with 1.4 sixty foot and he has not broken anything yet so I will use that setup for while and just see how far it gets me. If or when it brakes I will just go with 9" rear end and call it a day : ) Edited April 30, 2011 by Ivan280zt

Ivan280zt
Got some more work done in the last week. Here are some pictures of the dash and seats mounted. NRG quick release hub Reman steerig rack Took all these parts to get powdercoated in fine wrinkle black (texture finish). I also cut off spring pearches from strut housing so I can use my coilovers. Then I cut off crap load of bracket from around rear diff that I dont need any more. Edited May 2, 2011 by Ivan280zt
Ivan280zt
Two more holes closed off. They were my own fault due to the previous cage work. Started stripping out rear section of the car Most of my order from Arizona Z Car came in last night I will take few pics of that in next few days.
