Somehow that marker makes this feel far more "real" of a swap now. Like, I can get any engine and just put it into the engine bay. But actually having a mount made? That's something. Also, I'll be posted progress as I go on Youtube. Not trying to make some huge successful channel, just attempting to catalog what I'm doing and share some of the info and kinds of info I wished I could find more easily in the past. manimal Posted October 3, 2024 Share Posted October 3, 2024 Progress, that's what matters most! I'd strongly recommend adding more to that engine plate. It looks like 1/8" and with the way the tube is attached it will flex and eventually crack. I'd do at least another 1/8" which could be added to the back side all around, except for where the hole without the standoff is. Drill a few holes in the backing plate and plug weld it too. Gollum Posted October 4, 2024 Author Share Posted October 4, 2024 (edited) The plan is to gusset the 1.5" tube on multiple planes so that the plate isn't supporting the weight just around the diameter of the tube. And in the backlog to be released weekly, the engine mounts are done, and I'm working on the transmission mount. Still posting on youtube weekly and hope to get to installing this driveshaft asap. I was very concerned about the cost of a shaft with a splined mid section, but came out to a very reasonable $647.02. Granted, I guess when you only paid $800 for the engine and $800 for the transmission, that seems like a lot. Gollum Posted July 17 Author Share Posted July 17 I'm not dead. 2025 was a pretty big bust though. Just way too much going on being a family man. But I've recently made some progress. Engine is back out for hopefully the final time. Finished welding up the chassis side of the engine mounts and engine bay is painted. Still need to do some finish welding in the transmission tunnel. Also fabricated a mounting bracket for the brake master (booster delete). Still to be done off the top of my head: Cut down and weld the brake master pushrod Fab new brake lines Mount clutch master Fab clutch line Install flywheel Install adapter plate for final time with loctite and such Install clutch Drain and replace fluid in transmission Clean up transmission shifter hole (rusty from standing water in it (before me)) Install transmission Install new thermostat housing Install rear coolant adapter (with gasket, was just set on for test fitting) Install intake coolant adapter Fab and install engine to engine coolant lines Finish last bits of engine harness wiring Weigh final engine/transmission combo Install engine/trans for (hopefully) last time Fabricate radiator mount and ducting Mount and plumb radiator Plumb fuel line That's starting to get down into the last bits before first fire up. I'll also need to fabricate exhaust at some point, but it'll survive running an open header for just getting it back on the ground. With any luck I hope to have it close to first start by end of August. I've finally primed my side mirror today to repaint it in the original grey. Getting to painting a side mirror has taken me upwards of many months so you're doing way better than me!
