GeeZ
I need to replace the pads on my Z. It has Holden calipers on the rear with pads with the following number stamped on one of the pads: B74608. I am not sure if it is a part number or lot #. I have searched many Australian car sites and can't find it. I know it was for a Holden. The part was put on around 1996, but I don't know what model Holden it may have came from. Anybody down under have any ideas? They are made by Girlock.
Boy from Oz
Post some photos of the caliper and the pads and I'll see what I can track down.
Nizm0Zed
If you can trace the pad, and scan it with a size reference (preferably to scale) then i will look in my brake pad book at work, and give you the info you need.
yo880
i am trying to find out what mine are too.. i think mine are Holden Commodore VT's.. do the calipers look like this (with a straight bar on the front)? i am not 100% sure they are though.. every VT pic i can find has a slightly curved bar on the front. http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=882 http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=902 http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=964 http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=968 I can't find any thing relating to the numbers on anything on the web either
tonycharger72
I might be wrong, but if they are Girlock they are probably a bit earlier than mid 90's? Thought Ford and Holden used PBR calipers on the VR/VS & EL/EF's? Like 70's Kingswood used the Girlocks, same as an Charger that I had! However, if it is a Holden would very easy to acquire the pads for you at a local Repco Parts store, just need more information ! Nizm0Zed - your in Canberra? GeeZ
OK, took me a day or so, but here are the pics. Thanks for all your help.
Nizm0Zed
yea, im in canberra. Geez, the pads in your post are Standard Holden calipers, the Bendix equivalent is DB1086 that should help you to find something with a common number like that. yo880, your calipers look like run of the mill Holden commodore rear calipers. From the VB commodore (1978) up until the VS commodore (1997) they were the same caliper and pad. again, a DB1086 pad http://www.bendix.com.au/ProductCatalogue.aspx?reverse=1&manufacturer=Holden&model=Commodore&Year=Aug-93+-+Aug-97&variant=VS%2c+VR+(All+models)%2c&Hash=089FD40B (i dont know if this link will expire) If the link is no good, go to http://www.bendix.com.au/ProductCatalogue.aspx and either look up a Commodore (VB,VC,VK,VL,VR,VS) or simply punch the DB1085 number into the little window just below the car selection, and pick one of the cars that comes up. if you go that way, you'll notice that they were also fitted to some fords as well, so there maybe a crossover in a stateside car too? yo880
Thanks for the identification.. i guess i should find out exactly what the components are then, as i was told they were VT's - not that it matters much
tonycharger72
NizmoZed, same, saw pics of your build on Viczcar, Want to buy a shiny rocker cover that say's Turbo on it for your L28 ?
Nizm0Zed
Hmmm, then id have to sell my other shiny one. Anyone wanna buy a shiny rocker cover so i can buy a shiny turbo one? lol, back on topic. (tony, pm me with a price and pics) edit, yo880 they are definately holden rear calipers, i cant remember if the VT's had a different rear to the earlier stuff, i didnt think they did, but i think its a different pad number. I could tell you if i saw the pad. Im not at work atm, so cant check in my books (i run a parts store)

GeeZ
Thanks. I should have read this post first. Looks exactly like the ones I have. BTW, Girlock was merged with Bendix? yea, im in canberra. Nizm0Zed
dunno about girlock and bendix? i thought Girlock was owned by PBR (maybe the other way around) but bendix make pads, not calipers?
260DET
PBR bought Girlock out I think and went on to make OE rear brake systems for Corvettes and a few other US cars, good systems to use on a Zed because they are big and have a built in park brake. Good luck with your pad chase GeeZ, if you get stuck NismOZed may be able to assist seeing he is in the parts business? Which grade Bendix pad do you want? Plenty of choices with that particular pad. Nizm0Zed
yea, i could probably post a set to you over there, but id rather not, i have pretty limited spare time as it is. if you are 100% stuck, i will help out though.
yo880
heres a pic of my pad (looks the same as Geez to me): http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2236 http://www.project240k.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=2239 When comparing with VT calipers on the net, it looks like the caliper is similar, but the metal slider thingy on the front is curved on the VT+.. so i think your right.. they may be VS.. hopefully you can confirm wiht the pad pics
