turboHLS30
Hey HBZ members i was wondering if anyone has ever done the swap into any Z yet but particularly a first gen Z. I was talking to my uncle Luis Corujo and he said its possible i just wanted to know if anyones done it??
neotech84
Any thing can be done with money and time. But this is not a swap that I have heard of in a S30. A plus to this engine is forged con rods and DOHC. I would go 3rz(2.7L) for extra displacement.
turboHLS30
Well my uncle runs his celica with a 2rz tha makes over 1000hp and hit his record breaking run of 7.21 @ 192 so i want to go with what ever hes running just not as much power
neotech84
Nice! go for it! Thats why its YOUR car, you can do whatever you want! But take LOTS of pics so we can gawk at it.
turboHLS30
HAHA ok oh and i forgot to say i wanted to go with the 2rz because its a higher revving motor....
neotech84
The 3rz is just a stroked 2rz. It will make power sooner as long as its na, but I am sure you are going forced induction......
turboHLS30
of course they sound sick turbo on a 2 step LOL

softopz
I havent seen one to date the most common 4 cylinder swap is the sr20det
turboHLS30
for that id rather do the KA you can make the same amount of power with the KA as the SR and my dad has proven it
neotech84
for that id rather do the KA you can make the same amount of power with the KA as the SR and my dad has proven it Thats true, its bigger. It has been debated that the SR head flows better..... but any head can flow with a good port and polish and a valve job.
turboHLS30
Exactly i dont see whats so special about that swap seriously what sense does it make to buy that motor for so much when you can get a KA DOHC at a junk yard or something
MAG58
If I'm to be completely honest, I'd rather have the KA since it has an Iron block, and SR blocks have to be sleeved much above 600hp. The KA does have a better head, anyone that for a second thinks that forked rockers are more durable than direct acting cam on bucket doesn't really think that much. It's not a fully counterweighted crank, but with 400 more cc's, you don't have to spin it as fast for the same power. What's so great about the SR20? It's JDM Tyte? It's not even that light for being an all alloy motor. ...Back on topic. As much as I'm against 4 cylinder cars in principle and practice, a big RZ motor would be one of the few I'd think about. They put out silly amounts of power and have lots of torque. They're some of the few motors that could consistently pick fights with the factory Ecotec teams in pro FWD. turboHLS30
And they almost keep up with the titan guys with the TC that has a 2j as seen with my uncle Luis Corujo
turboHLS30
And I'm talking about the 2rz not the KA
alsil
Here's the post I had on the same subject a while back, some good info in it: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=115921 I'm still thinking about this swap myself, I still have a 36 mile commute, and I drive my wife's car because it gets better gas mileage than my Silverado.... it gets like 25-26mpg, which isn't bad, but isn't the 35 I used to get in my Civic. I'm guessing with a stock 2rz with just an air filter and a 2" exhaust I'd get probably 30mpg and probably mid 14's. Those motors have serious torque, especially in a 3200lb truck... so imagine what a 2200lb Z would be like. Best of both worlds... and even at higher power levels would probably still beat 25mpg. I've thought about going 3rz because of the fact there are much more of them out there, and they're still in newer Tacomas.... Dunno, this is something I can't seem to stop kicking around...
