stock 280zxt < please help me with some wisdom!!!got a borg warner ihi turbo

hi im pretty new to hybrid z i got a 1978 280z and i did a zxt swap on my z and did a rebuild on the engine, now i dont have a turbo , my friend has a borg warner IHI turbo which i believe its a 70 trim with a .63 ar and i was wondering can i run this turbo on my stock rebuild at low psi like 8psi?? without having to modify anything??? can i get away with that? or if not what do i need to do ? something easy and fast , it my dd car so i rather get some info on it than just trying it , thanks lmk

You haven't told anything close to enough information for an answer.

 

What car was it originally designed to be on?

 

If as I suspect it was originally designed to be on a Chrysler 2.2 4 cylinder engine, then it is way too small fora 2.8.

 

You would also have problems mating it to your exhaust manifold.

 

Stick with a T3 or T3/T4.

I believe you are refering to the BW turbo from the 6.5L Diesel found in the GM trucks.

 

I have that turbo on my L28, and after some slight fitment issues, needed to remove a cast in bump from the exhaust manifold to clear the compressor housing and make a 3/16" spacer to move the turbo away from the exhaust manifold, I was surprised at how well the turbo actually works. It spools up by about 3000 RPM, and seems to work well. I'm currently running 11 PSIG maximum, but have ran it to 14 PSIG. I have the boost down right now due to no intercooler.
