Fuel Pump selection

Project Z

Recommended Posts

I am currently searching for the correct to use for my L28ET set up. The list was already down to the Walbro 255lph external fuel pump but I wasn't sure if it would be enough for my application. I am planning on 15-25 psi of boost and my fuel set up is 550cc top feed injectors on a custom fuel rail, FMU, AFPR, -8 main and -6 return. I stumbled accross an MSD2225 pump which can pump a little bit more than the Walbro. http://msdignition.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/40016/2225

I am aiming for 400-500hp. Pardon me as I don't know anything about fuel delivery and I have searched about this MSD pump but didn't get the info that I needed. Please advise.

Whatever you do don't get a MSD pump. I've installed two and both have failed within 6 months. After reading online I saw I'm not the only who had them fail. I've had way better luck with walbros, not the MOST reliable pump but tons better than MSD in my opinion. An aeromotive or bosch 044 is going to be your best bet.

If your going to drop some coin, I've got an Aeromotive A1000. No matter what I do that FP will handle it all.

Take a look at the flow vs. pressure chart for the A1000 - as I recall it flows a sh#tload at 43.5 psi, but it drops off pretty dramatically after that.

Here's a chart:

It's probably still enough, but probably not by as big a margin as the 43.5psi numbers lead you to believe...
