jerryb
Nice.....I wonder how it works on rust??
piston
as hard the paint is, you would imagine it knocking off the rust just like sand. my sand blaster does not even come close to this. that must a be a new one using dry ice? never seen it before. jerryb
We use a CO2 blaster at work for final cleaning of parts. We refer to it as a snow job. It wont remove rust in anyway but removes finger prints and the such very well. To be able to remove paint must involve a lot more presuure! as hard the paint is, you would imagine it knocking off the rust just like sand. my sand blaster does not even come close to this. that must a be a new one using dry ice? never seen it before. Avernier
The "How it works" videos are very nice. it actually lifts the paint rather than pushing it away...
Nelsonian
After seing this earlier this afternoon, I contacted the one and only company utilizing this method in San Diego for more info. It was mentioned to me that they blast at around 125psi, if memory serves me correctly, sand blasting requires 90ish psi and not so good for thin s30 metal. I'm sure the dry ice gives more than sand, but thats some force behind it.
proxlamus©
I wonder how much it costs.. or how much it will run me for a few days rental!! Seems like something I can do in my garage!!
Evan Purple240zt
I doubt they rent those things, could be very dangerous with the wrong operator. Part of the deal is that it actually freezes the substrate, beats the hell out of having sand fall out of every hole in your car for the next 10 years after a blast job. z-ya
It looks more like soda blasting where the metal is not deformed at all. In fact it is as smooth as when it was molded. If it is like soda blasting it does nothing to remove rust. You have to spot blast the rust spots with sand to remove rust. Nice part about dry ice is that there residue that needs to be removed like with soda.
Sparks280zt
I rented one and it cost about $400 for the weekend for media and all, and yes it will remove rust.

Sparks280zt
Dry ice blasting can remove some very heavy rust as well, we use it sometimes to blast very large valves at oil terminals.
datsun723
I rented one and it cost about $400 for the weekend for media and all, and yes it will remove rust. Sweet!!
z2go
That is absolutely awesome, I think I might invest in renting one of these setups. It's well worth $400 to be able to get rid of all the old paint with no sandy mess! Perfect for my 2 car garage.
Sparks280zt
Just make sure you have a fan/ventilation. The dry ice sublimes straight to co2 gas. No need to sufficate....
jgkurz
Very cool!!!! Haha Seriously, this looks like a great alternative to other types of blasting. I need to have my car stripped to the metal for the next paint job and have been looking for options.
z2go
I rented one and it cost about $400 for the weekend for media and all, and yes it will remove rust. I just talked to a guy out of Memphis, he said to rent the equipment was $950 a week, $3300 a month (which, I guess is along the same price lines just longer periods of time). Did you go through a local guy, Sparks, or did you have to send out for it? I can't seem to find any rental options on my coast.
junglist
Wow, that is pretty awesome. Had no idea that you could even blast with dry ice.
Sparks280zt
I rented it somewhat locally. They are kind of hard to find.
