19762802+2
Didn't the Seller on ebay say what year the engine was? could just email them about it.
J Taylor
I'm not sure there is a way to tell what year but if it has the igniter on the outside of the plug cover it is a series one. If not, then it's built in to the coils and it's a series 2. There are some other differences but I couldn't tell you what they are right off and this is the easiest way to id them. ZT-R
should be able to tell by the serial on the block, run a search its somewhere on here.

WizardBlack
Use the search button, dude. In before the lock. How did you buy a powerplant as expensive as an RB without even knowing the year differences?
allenpetersen
lots of ways to tell. coolant temp sensor yellow or red, oil cap is one piece or if its a clicker, does it have vvt? what by pass valve came on it or did it have one? turbo is a steel or ceramic? neo or non? crank pully's changed. the list goes on. I dont know how to tell from the ser number but normally from looking at it i can tell. if you took a pic of it I could prob tell you within a couple years and if you answer those questions. Roostmonkey
Allen, what year does this look like to you? Ive been told that the grey plug connector by the intake indicates an R33.
RB26powered74zcar
That's a R33. Does it have anything on that white tag on the wire harness by the alt.?
Zreddy
Looks pretty similar to the motor i have.... its supposably an r33 as well.
amorfin
The pictures are of a RB26, but he asked about a RB25. I don't think you can use the same clues to know what model year it is.
allenpetersen
best way to tell is look at the brake booster vaccume hose. The manufacture date is stamped right on it. E.g. 5/12/1992 or like that. It's white letters and is like that on every nissan. Thats the number one way to get an exact date or seatbelt of the car. Its been a year since ive been messing around with this stuff so I forget if that crank pully is r33 or not. Looks to be a r32 pully correct me guys if I am wrong. The harness is R33 as the injector clips are a give away. All r33 engines will have a clicking oil cap unless it was a r32 v-spec from 1992 and then that would explain the crank pully being from a r32 but then confuses me with the injector clips. Also the temp sensor is missing. r32 has yellow and the r33 has a red. V-Spec r32 has yellow too tho. keep that in mind.
allenpetersen
also the p/s pump has one feed. R33 uses electronis hicas and only has one pump in the p/s pump rather than two like the r32 so I would guess its a r33 Good for you

Tanuki
So with the late model R32 rb26's the issue was fixed with where the crank meets the oil pump? What year did that change?
RB26powered74zcar
So with the late model R32 rb26's the issue was fixed with where the crank meets the oil pump? What year did that change? All this info has been posted here already. I have it saved on my hard drive, so I don't have to search for it.... " The Oil Drive problem was fixed by Crankshaft with part #12200-05U02, which was introduced in Feb of 93. Therefore, any R32 GTR produced in/after March, 93 was fixed, while those produced in/before January, 93 were not. Those produced in Feb 93 were on the border so they could be fixed or not." "More info from FAST part #12200-05U02 crankshaft is upgraded part which is fitted in my 32 gtr and all 33 gtr's and even some 34's part # 12200-05U03 crankshaft is fitted in all r34's >>> part # 12200-05U01 crankshaft is the culprit who causes all the confusion which according to FAST is fitted in all rb26dett's untill feb/1993 and its the shittiest of all. " ** I'm just doing a copy/paste on this info.
