LS Turbo Manifolds....

Recommended Posts

So I have two months till my wedding, and two months till I can start putting things together for a LS swap on my 81ZXT. Some say I am a bit of a sick bastard for wanting closer to 1000hp on my street set up, but some guys just need to have a 9 second street car. That would be me. Looking at header set ups, for a N/A set up with NOS, or building a turbo header if I have to fabricate anyhow and I ran across this set up on E-bay for 01 up Camaros http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380197798704&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Its hard to say if something like this woud work on a ZX, if the steering would be in the way, or if the cross over is gonna work, but it may be worth looking into. If any of you guys have input on if you think it would work, I would love to hear it.

1000fwhp should get you 8 seconds. 720fwhp should get you in the mid-high nines. But that all depends if you plus your car are around 3200 pounds.

I think you are getting too far ahead of yourself. Mount up the motor and get everything as complete as you can. Then start brainstorming about plumbing. You can also look into 351 headers as they are almost identical to the LS exhaust port pattern. Cut off the ford flange and weld on the Chevy flange. Alot of guys did this for their ls swaps in the stangs and alot of chevy guys used 351 turbo headers as well.

Ya my chassis guy told me about the 351 header idea, and I know what you mean about the steps to getting to my goals. Your hp to ET figures seem right, but you forget to add in the if it hooks factor. If it does hook will it break also is a factor. Anyhow I am not afraid fo trying anything. Lets see how it goes, I am still planing on the wedding more that the car, and I may go with a old style 350 still. I know I can make a 1000hps out of that easy still. Thanks for the input anyhow.

My car hooks enough to pull the wheels a few inches off and the only thing I broke was the powerglide and head gasket. The glide broke when I bumped the boost to 17 pounds shifting from low to high at the track. I'm not sure why the head gasket blew yet as my a/f was a solid 12.0, but its pump gas so I won't know until further investigation.

These videos are when the car was just out of the workshop and 3-5 pounds on the launch so you can see how well it hooks. When I left at 8 pounds it lifted the front up and I was glued to the seat. I haven't recorded any videos of the new setup. Maybe this spring.

I forgot to mention this is 100% stock suspension and rear. And the rear tires are 235/60/r15 M/T drag radials.

hi guys i am new member at this forum ,looking to build turbo LS2 engine for my 240Z,i bought just GT45 turbo can anyone guide me to select parts?

Selecting parts depends on how much you want to spend. You can get cheap horsepower with a turbo, but you can also spend a ton of money. I went with cheap parts, except for the top end of my engine and the fuel system. You can not skimp out on the fuel system. Look to spend 500 right there.

If your just starting on this project, I hope you know your going to spend well over $1500. The hardest part of the deal is the header. If your not a fabricator at all you better learn how to be one. The old school 350 has a few header options that can be worked for turbos cheap. Otherwise, evaluate what it takes to get a LS motor on boost. You have to think about ignition ://www.msdignition.com/Products/RPM/Timing_Controls/Timing_Controls/6010_-_MSD_6LS_Ignition_Controller_for_LS1-LS6_(24_tooth_crank_trigger)_Engines.aspx . After that you gotta figure out intake manifold, EFI or carb fuel pump and regulator. I can go on and on with this. But I think you got some acounting to do.....

the main problem that i am facing is making pipes for turbo (crossover, downpiping, flang for turbo,etc...

because i do not have any welding & fabrication knowledge .

if anyone wants to sell his LS1 turbo project or knows LS1 turbo project from someone please just let me know

Buddy I think you may be better off going with a old school type SBC. There are more options for turbo headers. Parts are easy, and your still gonna make over 700HP if you get the basics right. I am considering going LQ9 because of the 6 bolt main and I know the blocks are good for over 1500HP. Even still I have not purchased one part yet. I am letting the events of the next few months determin what I am going to do. I may move after my wedding and depending on the job I will have I will make the decision on what powerplant I am going with. My chassis guy wants me to do the LQ/S. But we will see. Good luck.
