Scott_M67
Is anyone using either the Area 51 Billet Mustache Bar sold by NOS Motorsports or the Arizona Z Car Mustache bar? I'm looking for any feedback you can provide. I'm also wondering if rubber mounts can be inserted in place of the poly mounts. I talked to Dave at AZ car yesterday and expressed that I wouldn't consider a machined aluminum part completed until it had a surface finish applied such as anodizing. This not only penetrates the surface of the aluminum and makes the surface very hard but also prevents oxidation. I was surprised that that he was unwilling to have it anodized and suggested using crappy clear Krylon paint. I can't find any contact information for New Old Stock Motorsports on their website to discuss if finishing is an option with their products. Anyone deal with these guys? Montezuma
I meet the guy from New Old Stock Motorsports last year at MSA, I think he gave me his card...but of course I don't know where it is. If I find it I will send you a PM. I have the billet stuff from Azrizona Z car, I have not installed it yet. You got me thinking about doing something to it prior to install now. Scott_M67
Thanks. The problem around here is the minimum batch price is $200 regardless if its just a couple parts, sometimes you might be able to find a plater willing to add a couple parts to someone elses job for a few bucks. We used to find shops to anodize small parts that we used to make at home all the time in California, not here.
datsun dave
I am going for the Arizona Z set up and will have them power coated when they arrive here in the UK
310z
I have the Arizona Z, rear end hanger. It is a beautiful piece. I have had no problems. I used Zoop Seal on all of my aluminum and it keeps things shinny for up to 3 yr. per application. This is not a permanent solution but if you want to keep the bare metal look, it is the best thing going. In three years, clean the part and wipe the ceramic liquid on again. Allow to dry and lightly buff. You wont even know it is there. Edited March 6, 2010 by 310z
cdenton
Be careful if you choose to powdercoat your aluminum parts as the curing can diminish the strength of the part. this is well documented for Al wheels. If you want to anodize on the cheap you could try doing it yourself. http://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/anodize.shtmlhttp://www.warpig.com/paintball/technical/anodize.shtml
Kris.Is.Awesome
I dont think the bare aluminum will be a problem. I've had Function 7 lower control arms on my honda for 2 years now without problem. They still shine as they did the day I bought them... Scott_M67
I talked with Mike at New Old Stock Motorpsorts who sells the Area 51 parts, they will anodize the parts to whatever Mil Spec I want for a small additional fee so I'm going with them. I'll be using MIL-A-8625 F Type II Class 1 clear anodizing on them.

Zoop Seal works fine on motor parts. It is a ceramic sealer, the box it comes in shows an HD motorcycle engine (air cooled, read "hot")on the cover. I do not remember the exact temp specks. If you look at my build thred (A 240Z by 310z) you will see all my under hood metals are coated in it except the header which is ceramic coated. Zoop Seal is online check it out. I'm looking for any feedback you can provide. I'm not sure what you are asking. I have been running Dave's AL billet Aluminum mustache bar on my race car since he first offered them, about three or four years ago. The mustache bar picture on AZC's web site is of my car. They have held up well with no structural issues and the finish still looks good even after being sprayed with parts cleaner and pressure washed countless times. I would buy them again if needed.
