MikeBZ
I'm looking at these 2 turbo's for my 240z build. The motor is an F54 Flat top piston NA block with a P90 head, stock cam, stock turbo injectors, and stock ECM. I will be using an intercooler, and 2.5 inch down pipe and exhaust with a straight through magnaflow muffler. I'm looking at 8-9 psi max Here are the turbo's I am considering #1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180471774388&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT T3 TURBO INTERNAL WASTE GATE TURBO CHARGER .63ar T3 internal wastegate turbo Intake: 3 inch Inlet: 2 inch Compressor trim: Compressor Wheel diameter: 54.28 /71.32 Turbine Wheel diameter: 55.79 /63.36 Exhaust Trim: .63ar Turbine flange type: T3 flange Down pipe flange type: 2.5 v band Actuator setting : 8 psi Cooling type: oil cool only And Door number 2 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290400802988&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Intel 3" Outlet 2" Bearing Wet Floating Bearings Oil Inlet 1/8 NPT Oil Inlet Flange Standard T3/T4 Flange Swaps 350 WHP Working Pressure 5~20 PSI Compressor .60 A/R Compressor Turbine .63 A/R Turbine Compressor Wheel Exducer: 3" Inducer: 2" Turbine Wheel Exducer: 2.2" Inducer: 2.58" Hot Side 2.5" v-band They look to be the same, just seeing if anyone has any advice or has purchased these turbos and what their opinions are. rossman
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they are both junk. So I would choose neither one.
SleeperZ
First one doesn't seem much different than the stock unit, and the work to plumb the exhaust would not be worth it. The second one looks like a bit of an upgrade from stock, and the same work to plumb. If you are looking for a mild factory upgrade, a regular T3/TO4B with a V trim is good, or T3/TO4E with minor tweeks to the intake plumbing. Just get a unit that bolts to a standard downpipe. For much more than 350hp, get a full TO4 or a GT series turbo and external wastegate. I would question the quality of the eBay turbos. Check feedback and try to get more information. Maybe lurk on the Honda technical sites and see if anyone complains or has issues -- I'm sure that's the target market for these. Brad-ManQ45
I would use a T3/TO4E 50 Trim compressor and a .63 A/R Turbine section with your choice of turbine trim depending on how much power you want and at what rpm. Gabe has switched to the .50 trim compressor from one or two bigger ones and is really happy now - spool and boost onset are much better. If you DO want to spend at least twice as much, go for a GT3076 - but you will need to get the .82 A/R to have the same flow as the .63 A/R on the GT35. The GT35 isa bit big for a 2.8 - fine for a 3.0.
MikeBZ
Thanks for everyone's advice I've been looking at different T3/TO4E turbo's but am on somewhat of a limited budget. GT35's and the GT3076 are for sure out of my price range. I have bought 2 used stock turbo's that turned out to be junk..... Most of the info I've found about the ebay turbos seems to be hit or miss, which is why I asked about these 2. Most of the reviews on them or feedback is done when the person opens the box and see's their shiny new part.... Godspeed had their turbo's reviewed by honda tuning magazine and they came out ok, but some claim the company cherry picked the good ones for the review... Cheap Fast Reliable They say you can choose 2 but not all three...
