macs_5
Okay, so I have a question about the various companies marketing turbos at various on-line sellers and ebay of course. I am looking at a GT25 Ballbearing and T3/4E types with water/oil cooling to replace a factory t3. What kind of luck have people had with the various economy units being sold? (looking at 250-300hp, using JWT z31 450hp upgrade, 46lb injectors, I/C and 3 inch exhaust on an 83 Turbo ZX with 5 speed). I would love to buy a real live Garret, but a thousand dollars +, is a bit steep. This will basicly be a street car with potential for a fast daily commute. CX Racing seems to have some pretty good stuff available and right now seems to be my main focus, but have noticed other brands being offered at some pretty unbelieveable low prices. (read: chinese made kirby vacuum blower with electric motor for less parasitic drag)? Thanks for the advice. regards, Mac

hoov100
If your looking at a new turbo with a price tag over $1k your looking at ones that either way to big for your car, or are marked up. Also with the JWT ecu's you need the cobra MAF, their wiring harness and a bunch of other stuff for it to work properly, ontop of that the tune will still not be very good. just get a nice rebuilt holset, buy everything to run megasquirt, buy everything else you need, tune it for 14psi, then tune it for 9psi and be happy. Hmm, good answers and makes me realize a little more info is probably needed. The car I bought is equiped with JWT system, the drive train was removed by po to do a sbc upgrade. Found out how difficult it was threw in towel. I get a kit car and while rewiring diked wire harness assemblies discover the "additional mods done to the car". Two folks I bought car from said their kid had a nice running car and then one weekend took it all apart. Left himself afoot. So since I have all parts except the turbo and the distributor, I figure to save some time and put it back together. Thanks, Mac
Ineptitude01
I'm with Hoov. Rebuilt units are just as good, and you've got a host of options. TO4E/B hybrid, Holset HX35, etc etc. Lots of happy HybridZ users out there, none of whom spent more than $600 on their turbo.
Brad-ManQ45
Gabe just put a .50 trim stage 5 turbo in his after a 60-1 w/stage 5 and another bigger turbo. Makes more power and spools better with the current turbo. It's easy to spend over $1K if you want a BallBearing turbo, but if you do the 3076R is the one to get with a .82 turbine housing (pretty much a flow match for the GT35 .63 housing). The GT35R is a bit big for 2.8....
