VG30DE from j30?

Recommended Posts

Ive been looking around for something with decent power and non turbo just for simplicity... Was looking at the vq30de out of the maximas, but they need a trans adaptor to work with a rwd 6spd from the 350z, and they are front sump...

But what about the vg30de from a j30, easy to find, and 200hp... Do they differ from a z32 vg30de? on car-part.com they seem to be twice or 3 times as expensive? same transmission bolt pattern?

Same motor, but those DE motors are wide and heavy, unreliable, They will only make about 180WHP and will disappoint you and are an absolute PITA to work on. Changing the spark plugs is about the only thing easy to do on those motors.

If you go VG anything, go turbo, regardless of et or dett.

We offer a mounting kit for the FWD VQ motor other than mount position the engine are almost the same, you can install 350Z/G35 parts to up the HP or any aftermarket parts for the VQ You do have to swap intake system and oil pan to fit it in.......

If you want NA power with simplicity then what about a domestic V8? Agree with Hoov about keeping away from a NA VG30DE although properly maintained they are reliable but in NA form are too heavy for what you get. VG33E? Not a lot of power but lighter and simpler than the VG30DE.

Not true. The VG30DE is a very reliable engine, though it is a little heavy for what it is.

I do agree with this...VGs don't make a lot of power NA...but they love boost.
