FiveSeventyZee
I found this on the driver side of my L98. I'm not really sure what it is but it looks to me like it may be some sort of sensor? Anyone know? The engine's from an 89 Camaro if that helps
hoov100
cylinder head temp sender. (it tells the carburetor how much coolant needs to bypass the trans cooler.)
FiveSeventyZee
I don't have a trans cooler. Is that why nothing is plugged into it? (I bought the car with the swap already done) Did it just come on the engine because they had automatics on the 5.7 Camaros? Because the PO swapped to a WC T5. FiveSeventyZee
What? The only transmission cooler I know of is the type that work like the radiator does and usually are on/near the radiator. I don't have one. Unless by trans cooler you mean something other than a transmission cooler, in which case I have no clue what that is

deja
You should have another temp sender near the thermostat. The one on the head will be more relevant but the one by the thermostat is normally connected to the temp gauge.
FiveSeventyZee
I have one that goes to the gauge but what should this be hooked up to?
Geking
I have one that goes to the gauge but what should this be hooked up to? Depends. What is in your car? In mine my FI system uses the front water pump port, while the head port (rear passenger side, but same difference) is for the gauge. I just felt like setting it up this way, no real must be that or must be this way. In other words, If you are using a carb with a manual choke, then you only need one temp sender(for the gauge.) If you are using FI you must have a temp sensor for that.
FiveSeventyZee
Ahhh, as I have a carb'ed setup with a manual choke that would make sense that it isn't hooked up to anything. I have another one on the passenger side hooked up to the gauge. So in the event that I go with a carb with an electric choke ever I would just hook this sensor up directly to the electric choke on the carb? MustangSix
Some cars have a temp gauge AND a temp light. Two different senders.
strotter
The sender near the thermostat for the ecm. The one on the side (pictured) is for the electric fan, at least on Camaro/Firebirds.
FiveSeventyZee
The way the PO had it set up has the temp gauge on a sensor on the passenger side of the engine and this one bare, should I just leave the temp gauge one there?
