motoman
So I'm in the middle of making a dash out of Al and i made one up out of cardboard to see what it would look like. This is what i have so far.
Daphur280
Love the wood-like trim jk Good mock up, what are you using for material? Aluminum, fiberglass, etc?
garvice
what are you using for material? So I'm in the middle of making a dash out of Al and i made one up out of cardboard to see what it would look like. This is what i have so far. Looks good, a lot like most of the aluminium dashes others have made. Are you going to use the passenger side for any switches/gauges/mounting? If not, how about just making half a dash? Would be quite a bit cheaper and would fit all the gauges that you are mounting.
Daphur280
ah missed that one...
motoman
IGarvice: I'm still going to keep the heater in the car so that is the reason I'm wanting to make a full dash. That way it is some what covered up and out of the way.
garvice
Fair enough, that is a good enough reason.
slownrusty
Cardboard dashes are the new carbon fiber!!
motoman
If only they would hold the weight of the gauges.
motoman
So got most of the dash done today just need to make mounts for it to put it into the car. Here is a couple of pictures of it out of the car. Edited July 24, 2010 by motoman
mannac
Looks pretty good. But I would do something about that overhang. With no airbags, a passenger's face could meet that edge in an accident.
hoov100
I know it's a little late, but maybe you could take the center section of the dash right above the trans tunnel and have it face you. Kinda like an RX7 dash.
motoman
I'm not to sure if anyone is going to be flying to far forward as i'm going to have 5 points in my car. I more had the lip there to keep the sun off the gauge faces. If you guys don't think 5 points will keep someones face out of the dash then i will do something about it. jbehuniak
see if you cant get some counter sink rivets for it, it will make it look tons cleaner! atleast for the top where the screws are, pretty easy to install, looks like youll need a size 6-2 or 8-2 because the screws are so large. But just buck em in and then have the front part removable so you can still work on what ever is on the inside.
motoman
Well it took me forever to finish this dash, I had to wait on gauges. Here is the finish product. What do you think? I still need to get my boost that is what the empty space is for.

Pharaohabq
That doesn't look bad, though make sure your passengers always wear their seatbelts, because wearing that dash would hurt...
motoman
I will make sure of that. At least its only 5 pounds!
