chrismiller5157
I have a 73 240z and the factory motor has been swaped for a 3.1 stroker. Question is, how do i tell if i have foraged rods or not? I was told that not ALL 240z engines have foraged rods, is this true or false? If this has been talk on before please link me to this page, i can do the rest. Thanks.
theghosttanker
They are all forged. Early 240 rods used a smaller rod bolt later ones use a 9mm rod bolt, and these are the preferred rods for a stroker build.
blue72
Ah, the sight must be impressive. Those shiny datsun conrods foraging in the wild before being rounded up and stuffed into a dark engine block. Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, forged rods in L series engines. Yep, they were all forged so no worries there. The '73 engine would have even had the 9mm rod bolt style.
Tony D
You wonder where these myths come from...like 'needing' a rebuild at 100K miles... Oh, waitaminit...those are applicable ot AMERICAN iron for like...the last 50 years! It all makes sense to me now! No, unlike an SBC the Datsun came with the bottom end constructed from forged components---cranks and rods. Nothing cast there save the pistons. ComicArtist
Just curious.... were the 240z's the only ones with forged internals or did the L28's come with forged internals as well?
BluDestiny
All L type engines 70-83 had forged internals except the pistons
