Sirpent
Soooooooooooooo Been a very busy past few weeks with work and associated travel, so the Zed took a break from me. The seats I purchased are everything I wanted accept for the fact that they are around 5 c's wider at the base, and horror shock (not really) they didn’t want to nest in the car. Much contemplation, thought, waking up in a cold sweats, and finally I took to the floor with a 1mm cutting disc and removed a good meter by 650 section of the tunnel and floor. Why you ask, well a few reasons that I had concluded during the past 2 odd weeks. Ø I needed more room to mount the seats. Ø The cat converter hump was to tedious to section and rework Ø The floor did have a few pinhole sized rust spots Ø By adding a new pan in thicker gauge between the rails, I would strengthen what is probably the weakest section of the car. So, much CAD (cardboard aided design) work later, I came up with this new 3D mock-up which will be fabricated by a sheet metal shop in 14 gauge and then will slip into the new Flintstone’s void I created and weld into place. I know, madness, but point out one thing I have done that wouldn’t have me committed to a psychiatric ward by any purist S30 lover. disepyon
You not crazy at all, just a normal day/thing in the fabrication world. Nice thing is when you can do it your self, you can justify why somebody would do what you want. Hehe, like your Acronym for "CAD", I'm a huge "CAD" user. Sirpent
Small but tedious preparation for the new tunnel which is being fabricating at a metal fab shop from my model and will be ready for pick up this coming Thursday. Today was taken up with removing the 2 seat mount reinforcements on each side of the car, tedious to say the least but mission accomplished. I sat a flat board over the cavity so as I could sit the drivers seat in place just to judge how it will all come together and so far looks the part. Next weekend, tunnel goes in followed by new seat rails which will go from each sill panel inward to the the upward sweep of the tunnel. Sirpent
So after a morning of trimming, and hacking further into the rear of the cars floor pan to work out how to close the rear off, I finally set the new section in place only to get half a dozen tack welds in before the MIG started pushing out bird sh*t welds and packed it in ;( Nevertheless, its in place of sorts. Madjunta
Gentlemen ! Your porn awaits ! More or less a pictorial step by step of how the conversion kit bolts together, and yes, it will be available as a kit ! Hi Regarding the Conversion kit, are they already available for sale?!? Sirpent
Hi Regarding the Conversion kit, are they already available for sale?!? Regards Yuri I'm afraid not The company that turned it all for me went bust after a supply deal to the U.S. went down the drain so you are looking at the one and only ever produced and as far as I am aware the only M112 manual conversion ever done. Sirpent
Chassis all welded now, just a few pics for now but overall really happy as it looks and is a hell of a lot stronger and sorted now. Heaps of gussets especially around the rear diff / LCA cradel. Lots of deburing and clean up of some of the welds, can now also get the rear LCA's fabricated now that the cradle is stable welded and transportable. A final fit up of the chassis complete with engine trans and diff followed by welding in the new tunnel then all off with the body to all be plastic bead blasted and locked up in EP before going any further. Additionally, picked up a set of Honda S2000 door mirrors with electrics and these Uber dash air vents out of Germany for an A3 which will go into the dash mod and build. I will take it that you mean "Z" literally and that "Z" doesnt represent some other meaning LMAO I doubt yours would need the amount of grinding mine did as your work is pretty exceptional to start with Cheers John
Sirpent
While waiting for the rear diff cradle to return with the new LCA's............... Decided that the front torsion bar mounts needed some reinforcement.
Sirpent
Just some seam overwelding and linishing back today and boxed in the lower torsion bar mount points leaving boxed in access points for the torsion bar nuts. disepyon
How long do you have to wait on the LCA's? I think that magnet of yours could use a good cleaning, I still havent figured out a good way to clean mine. Just curious John, What are you using to get your welds so smooth?
