boosted280
I have a 82 280zx that started out as a na but I switched it to turbo. Now it is running a factory turbo, megasquirt, supra 440cc injectors, msd ignition control, aftermarket fpr, aftermarket fuel rail, j-pipe, and some other odds and ins. But I was wondering if someone could help me with what muffler and cat to buy for my exahust. Once tuned the car should have aroung 250 hp and I would like to have it tuned with the exhaust already on there. So is there any advice? Sorry if this is in th wrong spot or anything. Thanks ahead of time.
sweetleaf
Just fabricate a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and downpipe.
boosted280
According to the inspection guy they need to have a cat and muffler now. So I am wondering what is a good one to use.
tec280zx
Dynomax Bullet mufflers sound great on a turbo. Throw on a tip or keep it tucked in for a cleaner look. I'm not into the flashy exhaust tips anymore. This should work for a cat. Just keep it all 3in.
sticky280zx
pretty sure if you are in cali, those mods make it illegal? so why worry about the exhaust? i dont get why people mod cars where there are restrictions, then ask questions about how to further mod the car, yet want to have it "legal"....its not possible. boosted280
Not in cali. Im in Texas.
sticky280zx
then you should have no issue, dont worry about what they guy (who obviously doesnt know what he is talking about) keeps telling you, car is over 25yrs...tell em to shove it and run it straight, maybe a muffler at the back but no need for anything else. Ps put youre location in your profile...its a rule here
boosted280
SO I can stick with my original plan of dumpung it after the down pipe thats on there?
sticky280zx
you can if you dont like torque?? having a full exhaust will help the car make torque and not be so loud/plain obnoxious
Leon
you can if you dont like torque?? having a full exhaust will help the car make torque That's not true at all, especially with turbocharged cars.
BluDestiny
Ditto what leon said. on a turbo you want the least restrictive exhaust. To lilt, I would run a full exhaust just because I don't want it to smell like detriot in my car and to quite it up. Also why do you have all those mods and no intercooler? piping and the IC itself could be bought for like $200 off ebay.
boosted280
Eh just havent done it yet. Its on the future mod list. But I am more worried about making it street legal.
boosted280
I have another question. Does everyone go around the driveshft or d oyou go under it to the muffler. I am reffering to how you run the pipe. Thanks for any help.
tec280zx
What year is your car? Mine runs right along side the driveshaft and exits the driver side. Or are you talking about the axles?
boosted280
My fault I meant the axles. I have a 82 coupe. Do most go under the axles or above it like it did originally?
tec280zx
Gotcha, mine goes over the subframe then dips under the axle. 3in piping didn't have much room going over the axle. Edited April 4, 2011 by tec280zx
boosted280
That pic shows me exactly what I was looking for. I was meaning the subframe all along. Not the axles. Thanks. Edited April 4, 2011 by lilt304
